S550 4MATIC
Stock 1/4 mile time & Tune Cost

Guys,

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a Low Mile 2013S550 4MATIC and it seems like the 1/4 mile times are all over the place, Motor Trend has a 13.2? Car and Driver has a 12.9? Which is it??
And is a Simple Downloaded tune Really $2000.00?????

Thanks again, and Merry Xmas

It really doesn't matter what's reported because they are using their driver in their environment. It's all based on several factors such as the driver, weather conditions, altitude, etc. These all make a difference. The best way to find your actual 1/4 mile is to go to the track and run it several times. Remember, the 4matic is over 4800lbs...it's not a race car

Merry Christmas!

They run from 12.9-13.2, on average. Run your car and see what it does.

The tune is expensive because you pay the mercedes tax. Eurocharged has the best tune deals normally, I've seen them offer it for $500 or so.

Hello, Tune price on this vehicle is priced not because it is a "simple" tune. This tune requires shipping the computer and opening up the module for flashing. It unfortunately is not OBDII flashable computer and is pretty labor intensive. We've never posted $500 for the M278 tune but we have for the NA 550's before which are OBDII flashable with their ME9.7 computer modules. Although, if you would like to tune this car i can lock in that UNDER $1000 price for you for the holidays and hit it at $999 which i know we have done before in the past (: let us know! Happy Holidays

Not a problem, hopefully one day the Bosch MED17 ecu's will be OBDII and as soon as it is possible we will definitely let the world know

And anytime, make sure to contact us if/when you get the car and I bet if you refer back to this post we can make it happen. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!

S550 4 matic?

I doubt those numbers, but I could be wrong. My S430 does 14s/low 15s and feels as quick as our S550 4 matic. Actually I think it might be quicker....

Are we talking early 550s or twin turbo ones?

Low to mid 13's is about right for the 2012-13 S550. Your old S430 isn't even in the same ballpark performance wise as the W221 bi-turbo with 429 hp and 516 lb/ft of torque in his S550. If you have a 2012-13 S550 and your old S430 is on par with it, then you need to consider getting your car to a mechanic as you have some serious issues that are hampering performance.

I was talking about the none turbo version (earlier S550).

A properly running NA S550 would easily walk your S430. 0-60 in the W220 S430 was 7.2 seconds. The NA motor W221 S550 is around 5.5 seconds.
