Comand update only updates NAVI

I have a '09 S550 and it has never had a navigation update. But I always use Waze or Google Maps anyway. Does the navigation update disc update just the navigation maps or it added features to Comand also? If so is there a change log somewhere to show what features were added?

At least on my 2012 E-350, only updates the navigation with the newer roads, highways, and so forth. I can imagine it is the same thing on the S. For settings, I think you would need the DAS, which is the computer interface with the car, and is pricey.

A COMAND Map Update (i.e.v16) is only a map update. It adds and updates new roads and routes and POI information. It will not add features to the COMAND unit. That is called a Telematics Update, and must be done at the dealer. They usually will not sell this disc, as it must be used in conjunction with the workshop computer to carry out the update. It takes close to an hour if you have one available for your car.

The most obvious update is the one that applies to the 2007 model year vehicles. This update applies several new features to the COMAND unit.
