I love this car
Still love it. Can't, just can't like the new body. It's just very Japanese looking and I just love the more square Rolls Royce road presence.
The 2010+ is just a very timeless design that I think will age better than any other S class so far. Chime in if you agree. |
The newer models all look alike and like other cars.
|
Lol, not sure you'll get many disagreements in a W221 sub-forum.
Y U NOLOVE pre-facelift? |
Many have updated to the w222 in here and still say the same with the exterior, but yea, love for all w221, but with upgrades like tails, etc, it just brings the pre facelift to the forefront.

I had a new 2013 W221 S550 which was an absolutely WONDERFUL car! But, I made the mistake of getting Obsidian Black and being a "half glass empty" type of guy, I just could not handle it. So, I got a 2015 W222 S550 and now a 2018 S560. I still find myself looking at the W221's that drive by. To me, that design was magnificent and just SO elegant. I do not care nearly as much for the W222 and now that the lesser models look almost exactly the same, my S Class just doesn't feel nearly as special as when I had my W221. MB should have kept the S Class design more unique, more elegant and more exciting. I do love my 2018, but almost entirely for how it drives, not how it looks. Add to that, the idea of NO SPARE and NO PLACE TO PUT ONE, along with the "standard" Panorama Roof-which I REALLY dislike and my car is what it is: A magnificent driving, very safe, very luxurious, bland looking motor car.

I drive by W221's all the time and ask myself, why didn't I get into the Benz family sooner?

I like the new design as well, but man, oh man ... they should call the new benzes: Small, Medium and Large. Because size is the only visual differentiator until you're really close to pick up the model letters on their trunk. |

But, alas, that doesn't work either. These cars age in many ways, the technology, electronics, hydraulics, etc. As much as I prefer the exterior look of the W221, today, the newest one is probably at least five years old, starting to push the limits of extended warranties and, IMO, not something I want to be driving. I like new cars. They are pretty much my only vice. So, every three years or so, I treat myself to a new daily driver. In between, there is a new car for my wife and then maybe a new SL for perfect, sunny days on Pacific Coast Highway. No, for me, I want to stay current with my cars. I can only hope that the W223 and R232 cars are pleasing to me.
|
I agree , the W221 has an elegant and powerful dominating looks.
|
Jason its ok bro, still timeless.... Until you drive the w222 and realize the boatiness is gone...
|
I had one as a loaner, and couldn't tell. But maybe that's because this only has 28,000 miles on it still. I read an article a while back how they were saying the w222 suspension is identical or nearly identical to the w221. It was pretty in depth and I can't find it. I say if you have an old one and have other cars and keep the miles low, it keeps it young. :)
|
Def keeps them young!! Im at 4 cars currently. I switch up whips to stay off the radar. lol

I absolutely agree with Streamliner, I loved 2014 S550 and I love my newly purchased S560 2018, but I still miss 2012 S W221, smooth silky ride, and bigger size and more trunk space, etc. I know MB is trying to make W221 more sporty and fuel efficient car adapting new technologies (more chips ), I dearly miss W221 badly!
|
I have yet to drive a w222, I may look at doing that in the near future, but I really like the S350 and the one way to get one of those is to move to DE or win one in an overseas raffle:nix:
|
Oh well, all my staff in their 20s 30s early 40s loves new W222 body style, but I still misses W221 heavy silky ride. All in all, I do love 2018 S560, It surely is the cream of the crop.

IT drives about the same to me. The airmatic and chassis isn't really changed. There was a big fuss about this in the past that the new one really should have been called a w222 as it's really not a new chassis, more like a mid year update, can't find the article. If you were able to drive both and close your eyes and not know you were in the new one, it'd be tough.
A pic is needed for this thread. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...4a056a7fb.jpeg |
I prefer the new styling. While the C and E are similar the S is by far the best expression of the new design language with the C being second best (exterior wise). I see nothing wrong with the cars being similar the W222 is a beautiful design and I wished the smaller ones were even more scaled versions. To me when I see a W221 it looks still looks impressive but would rather look at a W222. Am curious about the drive / ride quality differences.

I hate the new models. The nerd herd electronic gauges soft pussified, rear end 4.0 liter filled to the trim for geeks dweebs technology e63samg.
That soft rear end, and includes that hideous iPad glued to the dash. Not a monster aggressive look like my W212E63S The new E63S W213 interior is a Louis Vuitton purse with a nerd haven of gadgets and tailored to those who need the technology the nerd-herd instead of just a car. Besides looking like a pussified, smaller version of an S. The W212 E63S' pound for pound are they best overall luxury sedan built for speed, performance, balance, handling, occupants, styling and class. |
Agreed!
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7f3de23c9.jpeg and this beautiful dash :) https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...ce85e40f74.jpg |
