Replace coils one at a time or all?

So I'm having an issue with my car starting up (and running rough, still trying to figure that one out), then driving it maybe 30 minutes or so, when I go back to start the car again it won't start up. If I wait several hours, something seems to cool down and allow me to finally start the car again. I recently replaced all the spark plugs and thought that would fix the problem. After that I still ran into the same issue and when the car wouldn't start after a short drive I got a code saying "misfire on cylinder 5". I'm wondering if I should replace the coil on cylinder 5 or just replace all the coils? Obviously really money is the only factor here. Thoughts?

It depends on the mileage. If you can afford to do them all, go for it. Usually, owners replace them as needed. If it were me I would only replace coil 5 first to make sure that's the issue and take it from there.

how many miles on the car? personally Id get them from a reputable online seller and change all of them. I bought an m3 afew years ago and was having similiar prblm w a misfire, I changed the plugs and the ignitors all at once . Since I was doing it myself it didnt cost alot but i saved a huge amount by not going to a mechanic. I blv the 6 ignitors were around 200 and they were oem bosch.

Sounds like a faulty crankshaft position sensor

Thanks for the tips guys. Car has 95k miles. I agree on the crankshaft position sensor. When I initially bought the car it was in limp mode (Diagnostic rig test, ABS error), I scanned the car and the one and only error was P0016 which is the retard in bank 1/camshaft position sensor. Which I guess could mean a bad sensor, a correct sensor (which would be the worst problem), or possibly faulty magnets. I cleared the code and the car ran but it's running rough, kind of hard to explain but it sounds like it's running a bit louder than it should although the car drives fine. So eventually I put a new sensor on the far left hand side and it didn't seem to make a difference. That's where I'm at now, trying to figure out if the coils are the next step. Any thoughts?

swap the bad coil with say coil 1 to see if the fault follows the bad coil.
