Remote Key Battery

I keep getting the message "Replace Electronic Key Battery" even after putting new batteries in both keys. Anyone with this issue?

So, after posting this, I found the solution in a different forum. Car needs to be started once by removing the push button starter cover then inserting the FOB. After that, replace the push button starter cover and start two times.

Note: After trying that, it didn't work for me.

Thank you.

If you have not already done so try cleaning the contacts no difference, try replacing CR2025 battery with CR2032 both are 3V but 32 is a bit thicker.

Turns out the spare key had a slightly depleted battery. Using a volt meter, I checked the voltage on both keys, one read 3.4 (approx.) but the spare was just below 3.0. Seems this makes enough of a difference. Once I put the 3.4 battery back in the key, the message went away. The spare now has no battery (until I get a CR2032 for it.)

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Hi,

I just went to my dealer with both key FOBS. They replaced the batteries for free, and it took less than 5 minutes...

For free??? At the MB dealership?? This is impossible! Unthread-of. Strange.

Never heard of “free” at MB dealership. This is one for the Guinness book of records! Where is this dealership? Did they mess up on something and trying to keep you happy?

Anyway, it’s not replacing batteries that’s a problem, it’s getting the car to stop complaining about the batteries being low, even when fresh ones are put in both keys.

Bumping this because the 2032 battery swap worked on both of our keys - even new standard batteries got the "replace battery soon" message.
