2006 Mirror upgrade to 2012 mirrors

2006 Mirror upgrade to 2012 mirrors
Is it an easy job upgrading the mirrors ? the LED turn lenses are broken on my current car and the auto dimming mirrors its supposed to have arent working (one of the glass was definitely replaced with a non dimming one) ,
Im considering putting on the newer style mirrors, is it plug and play or are there mods involved ? (i do want to get the auto dimming working again)

It was plug and play on my 2007 GL320CDI and I’d take that as a clue it may be on W221 as well. The puddle lights changed from incandescent to led but that caused no problem.
understand that the auto dimming glass by itself is >$300 so maybe not surprising it wasn’t replaced
i found a pair on eBay, the left $275, the right $96. I watched for quite some time. Two different colors, but my original color was discontinued By the time of the new design.
may need to take care matching options ... my ‘07 didn’t have lane change warning and most newer models did. Finding ml rather than gl mirrors helped with that.
im not aware if mirrors on other models are interchangeable with s class.
