abs and esp inoperative message
Hi all, looking for some advice. Main dealer recently carried out some work on my car, S600, W221 2010. They had the car a month and as well as a service they replaced ignition coils, spark plugs and engine mounts. The car has done 65k km.
Within a couple of weeks and having not driven more than 50km since getting the car back I got a message "ABS and ESP Inoperative" as well as "Run Flat Indicator Inoperative". I obviously thought that this was linked to the work they had carried out and took it back to the garage who advised after checking that the ESP module would need to be replaced. They are also claiming that this is not linked and I would have to pay the full cost.
Is this correct and is there anyway these messages could appear or a fault pop up following the work that was performed. I have a feeling that they are trying to distance themselves from taking responsibility - any comments much appreciated.
Thanks

I use iCarsoft MB II scanner, which cost around $110 or so. It is not the best scanner but when I got messages like yours my scanner told me the problem is the front left wheel speed sensor. Replaced sensor and all is good.
But it could also be what your dealer says, would be good to check first by yourself though as the sensor is very easy to replace by yourself and cost only around $130 from the dealer. I’m sure much cheaper sensors are available from other sources too.

had the same problem a while ago, found two front wheel sensors for ~ $25 each on eBay. Easy to replace yourself. Replacing the 2 front wheel sensors fixed it.
By the way: is your power steering very hard to turn now?

Yeah, forgot this detail. My steering went very hard when the sensor was bad.

Yeah, it's the old problem:
A man brings his car in for an oil change. When he picks up the car, the muffler falls off. Now he blames the shop even though they never touched the back of the car.
It's just a coincidence.
But with ABS, ESP light AND hard power steering I would bet it's the wheel sensors.
If you can do it yourself it will cost you about $50 in (eBay) parts and 2-3 hours of work.
