For those of you who know about the software, maybe you can offer some advice about how to fix this. I suspect that it needs to go to the dealer at this point. This can serve as a warning to those of us (like me) who don't know what they are doing and shows how you can mess stuff up.

This video is long and boring for most people so if you're not into detailed software stuff, it will probably not be of interest to you.

didn't watch it all - but its quite easy to throw the car in a mood - disconnect the rear battery for 20 mins and see if the CGW gets over itself (if only a single front one, disconnect that one) - the rear has an earth by the spare wheel well ( to the side of the wheel - red 13mm headed earth bolt) - no need to torch the trim - unlock first or the alarm throws its teddies

any chance you were playing with the roof module (OCP) ? that one mustn't be played with with the engine running, and never update with the key On

Thanks for the tip. I tried that and what I was able to determine afterwards was a clear message that said "Control Unit Not Programmed". So, off to the dealer it is!

I don't think they will help - updating the comand on this model is no longer a choice offered in dealerships - they have stopped this since I believe 2022 - and now don't like to supply the CD required. the Benzninja club is a better way to work on mercedes than the dealerships

the beeps for the key is an American mkt feature hidden inside the many secret menus of the instrument cluster - highly unlikely aftermarket stuff will get you here...

when playing the car loves to run the battery flat - best with something trying to help keep volts up
on diagnostics when it says "key on" - it doesn't mean running

depending upon what you are playing with on many cars some stuff is OK to molest engine running others must never be with the engine running...
