2012 S 550 Command rebooting and dash goes crazy

Three weeks ago I installed a new battery in my 2012 S550. Everything has been fine. Last night the command shut down as if I had turned the car off. When it tried to come back up dinging started and the dash acted like the car was in aux mode. All gauges speedometer and tach dropped to zero, all while going down the road. The car was running fine. Several messages popped up about different things not working, cruise control etc. I’m going to try to attach a video. Saw somewhere on one of the forum to hold the on/off button down for 5 seconds to reset the command. Did that 5 times before the radio actually came back on. About 5 minutes later it started acting up again. Any ideas what’s wrong? Well I couldn’t upload a video it was to large but this gives an idea.

**went to local auto parts store to have codes read. Attaching photo of the codes. **

This many problems means something in common with them has a problem. Obviously all the units with problems do not just go bad at the same time.

I would do a full scan if you have means to do it but if not there is one easy way to look at one possible source for the trouble, the CGW.

Central Gateway connects to almost all modules in the car and problems with it can cause all sorts of errors. Happened to myself and my problem was bad connections with the unsoldered pins in the CGW.

The easy test is to disconnect/reconnect the harness of the CGW and see if things change. The unsoldered pins are the pins the harness connects to so they can move and change their connection to the board with this test and change the amount and type of errors you get. If change in errors happen it is a strong indication of the bad pin connections in the CGW.

CGW is located in the left end of the dash. It is mounted on the same bracket with the AUX battery, a box about 4”x4”x1”.

A new CGW cost about $150 and it needs to be coded to the car. My solution was I soldered the pins on the board.

Fixed it

I read somewhere to resend the XM/Sirius signal. Lo and behold fixed the problem.
