Wheels & TPS

Hi. I found a set of w222 20" wheels local from a 560. I was going to grab them for spares as I was going to have my AMG wheels restored. Will the tire pressure sensors work with my '13 in these W222 wheels?

As long as they are the correct frequency they will work. You have to check the part number of tire pressure monitors.

Good price!! The TPS sensors work on two different frequencies and you need to make sure they are the same as the ones you have. If so, you are good to go. Mount and run! If not, bigger but not huge hassle. Simply move the old sensors to the "newer" tires. No coding should be needed. I replaced a dead sensor, checked for the same freq. dismounted the tire, replaced the sensor, remounted the tire. Within 500 yards after restarting, car read the tire pressures and displayed all four.

Keep us posted!

if you buy autel sensors - current models are either frequency and you can code the sensors to match the current ones in the old wheels - then you can use either set of wheels and they will just work

These wheels appear to be from a 15-18 S class. They are 8.5x20" and 9.5x20"

The tires are 245/40R20 and 275/35R20

Is this the correct staggered set up to not harm my 4-matic?

Should be same frequency, which is 433mhz.

Amazon Amazon

Tire height calculator shows rears being a 0.1" difference, fronts being 0.7" difference.

With wear thresholds certainly considered in design, I wouldn't hesitate to run them while AMG's are in the shop.

Been meaning to do the same here, just too broke lately to have it done. There's a shop here in Tampa that will chemically strip, press-straighten, CNC face, and basecoat clearcoat for about $250 a wheel. Not bad in my opinion. Did you get a quote for yours yet?

I'm particularly fond of these triple five spoke wheels. They just fit for this car. They really nailed it with these. I do like the larger 20" five spoke for the 221 gen as well.

Awesome reply. Thank you. Yeah, I ended up looking to see the difference, should be fine. There is a local place that straightens highline wheels. They are about 130 a piece. They also cosmetically do the wheels...however, they seem to be great at the straightening thing...not great at the paint. So im going to have them straightened then powder coated separately.

Thank you!

straightening alloy wheels - makes them soft and squidgy - heat treatment can re-harden but its a hell of a chore / skill to get them right

I figured as much. I am not a wheel guy at all.... The person I am using I had fix a set of Bentley wheels for a customer. That worked out, will see what happens with these.

Im going to bolt these w222 wheels up this weekend and get the AMGs squared away.

Thats why I figured grabbing these as a 2nd set either way wasnt a bad idea just in case.

Absolutely, especially at $500 bucks. That's a damn steal and now you have four spares/winter set! Doesn't get better than that. You will have to post pics once you mount them up though, you're probably the first to have this car/wheel combo!

Front tires diameter: 245 x 0.40 x 2 + 20 x 25.4 = 704.0 mm

Rear tires diameter: 275 x 0.35 x 2 + 20 x 25.4 = 700.5mm

704.0 / 700.5 = 1.005

You are perfectly fine with this setup, other than in my opinion it is UGLY. There needs to be more rubber on the rim in my opinion... But that's just me...

Funny enough, I don't mind them. I was pleasantly surprised that the TPS had the same frequency and all was good.

They look a lot better installed than by themselves. Looks like there is enough rubber on the rims.

The only thing is that it makes people think the driver wears a Top Hat😂
