^Yikes is right. Not a big fan of chrome, gold (real or not), lime/neon color, or excessively flashy wraps or paint jobs. Really tacky and terrible. I would think that reflective wrap that's becoming popular on celebrities' cars makes it really hard to drive in the sun when you're blinding yourself constantly.

 

Meh, I am not impressed, it doesnt have 47 Swarovski crystals!

 

Is there a 47 De Beers diamonds option hahaha

 

Germancar1, I can't find the thread where you and I were discussing the old Luxury Car Forum on Edmunds, so I will give you some interesting info here.

I told you that ljflx has also become a big fan of Mercedes after being a Lexus lover like myself for so many years. In fact, he purchased his first MB (GL) in 2007 and he followed that up with a 2010 GL. He recently ordered a brand new GL with a designo interior. Last year he purchased a 2013 S550 with sport package plus a 2013 SL with designo paint and interior. How do you like that? Yes, the world has changed since those Edmunds luxury forum days.

 

I wonder if he's regretting that 2013 S purchase.

 

No, not at all. He loves it. But he also states that the W222 is out of this world awesome looking.

 

 

That is stunning. I'm almost speechless lol. Anyone who has a S and a SL is a true Mercedes driver. You should get him to join this community and you both should join Germancarforum.com. It is the best site of it's type on the web.

So he will have a GL, S and a SL! Yikes. I'll return to Mercedes sometime this year.


I would love to hear why he left Lexus. I could almost guess why. The SL, GL and S are superior to anything at Lexus by such a staggering amount it isn't even a contest anymore.

Merc - How are you my old friend. Yes I've got a 2011 GL (waiting on a 2014 that's due in late this month or early April) and have leased GL's in 2007 and 2010. It's an S class in SUV form as far as I'm concerned. Great ride, excellent handling for a truck that size, top notch quality and real quiet. Last year I went to the 2013 S from the LS. Leased it because I want the new model but got a great deal and the timing was right. Absolutely love it and the the more I saw the styling the more I loved that car. It was a great business year last year and I always said I wanted an SL and splurged. I also leased that because I knew the S coupe was coming and I love it. Merceedes deals on an SL are incredible in April and I still can't believe the deal I got on that car. It's designo graphite with a designo platinum white interior. The S has the AMG sport package, panoramic roof and is in diamond white (really beautiful car) and the GL is arctic white and the one coming in is palladium with designo porcelain and anthracite wood. I haven't driven the SL recently because there's been snow on the ground forever here. The ride and handling mix on that car and the supreme luxury it has are incredible though. Don't have time to go into details but I'll post pix when I figure out how to and I'll tell you how this all happened in a post when I have more time.

No I' don't have the CLK430 Cabrio anymore, sold it back in 2012 after driving it for 6 years. I wanted either a CLS or a SL, but to be honest I couldn't stand the look of the CLS and wasn't happy about the SL550. The SL63 AMG that looks a lot better to my eye, was a little more than I wanted to spend on a car right now.

Yes I moved to Dallas for work a little over 4 years ago.

I thought long and hard about the SL550, but couldn't do it, so I ordered a 2013 BMW 650i Coupe. I considered the CL550 at the time, but I knew a new one was coming so I didn't go there. I would be sick now after seeing the new on.

Isn't it funny how things change! I also inherited a 2010 Lexus IS250 AWD that I will likely trade for a E400 or C400 this fall. I also have my eye on a previous generation SL550, as they're so much prettier to me, but the new SL is a superior car on all other fronts, the look just didn't agree with me. Specifically the front end.

You have a GL, SL and a S! I told you back then you'd come around lol.

I'm dying to know what you think about Lexus now. Mercedes lost me with their styling with the current CLS and the SL, but as with any new design theme, it takes time to mature and look right. The new S-Class is the best looking S since the W126 from the 80's and the new S Coupe is to die for from the pics. Such a car is just a little mature for me at this point, but the coupe I could go for.

The GL is also a looker particularly the GL550 and GL63. Which GL did you order? I can bet you have a SL550 because you didn't see the point of the AMG models back when? They nailed the GL so much so it has been the bestselling vehicle in that class.

I dont know if any one ever posted it but I do have an ordering guide for the S class coupe. Not sure how to attach it as an internet file though. There's a designer mocha black and anthracite blue that I think the car would look spectacular in. I was told to stay away from matte finishes. but theres more and more of them showing up.

 

Sorry to hijack, but I am considering adding an SL within a couple of months. Would you mind sharing details of your deal? PM is fine.

Got the car at Contemporary Motors in Little Silver NJ. It lists at just under $125K. There are only two options I don't have - Magic Sky and the Burmeister radio. I did a 2 year lease at $1325 a month (0 down, free maintenance, 10K miles per year) but I prepaid the lease. Again this is with designo interior and designo exterior paint. Otherwise the car listed at $116K or so. I am thrilled with this car and was shocked at the mileage. I got 28-30 right off the bat on the highway in light traffic and 24-26 in heavier traffic. Every MB I drive gets better gas mileage than it was supposed to. I didn't notice where you are but if you're in NJ I'll give you the guy to see. Hold off to April. That is when they have the great deals. I originally went in there to buy a 2 year old SL that was in impeccable condition and had very low mileage. I initially liked the old body style better. But i fell in love with the new style and the technology is thru the roof. The top opens in 18 seconds and there's more trunk than i ever expected. I don't know what to do at lease end. I want to buy it because of the unique designo colors but i can't resist that S coupe.

That'a cool, but it's ridiculous that you need a 16 digit pin and can't set your own. That's going to drive drivers nuts when a new passenger gets in. They let you change the "name" of the network, but it should also let you create your own password.

Audi's in-car LTE starts at $99 for six months of service and 5GB of data - the article also mentions 3G connectivity -- is too slow for next-gen infotainment, which has a need for speed.

I'm sure we will see LTE option soon from Mercedes. THey don't have a choice.
