It is very possible we may see only a marginal improvement when we make the switch.

I am confidant though that an improvement, as little or as great, will still be better than what we have now. The softness of the NON runflat tires alone will initiate a better drive.

20" will always have a sporty ride, but what we have now, is quite a bit TOO sporty.
Non run flats will be better still. 20" wheels are nothing new to MB. They had them for years on the W221 (Sport +1 package) and those ride fine.

Just FYI, Airmatic suspensions have always been softer than ABC, either in Comfort or Sport setting.

Yup def. All the S65 and S63 had 20" without runflat and no one ever complained about the ride.

Absolutely. ABC is a sportier ride. However I must say, I never experienced any discomfort whatsoever with ABC.

I also think the magic Body Control is going to make the entire setup a lot more smooth. Just these darn tires...

Call your dealer - find out where they put it. Now I wonder where they put mine. Not in my glovebox either... Just checked.

Ok, I know that mine comes with the standard air matic suspension (I believe improved for 2014). But what does ABC mean for those us that are not into these things?

Our wheel locks were in a little plastic box with the plain normal lugnuts. This was put in the compartment in the trunk, where the spare would normally be.

Added this pic, hoping it helps in what the size of the box is you are looking for.

Airmatic is Air Suspension which can be made soft or stiff depending on your

Active Body Control, or ABC, is the Mercedes-Benz brand name used to describe fully active suspension, that allows control of the vehicle body motions and therefore virtually eliminates body roll in many driving situations including cornering, accelerating, and braking.

Now I'm even more confused. Do all new S550's have this ABC, or is it only those that have Magic Body Control?

ABC was enhanced with the road surfacing scanning in 2014 and renamed to MBC (magic body control). So anyone with an airmatic suspension (like me) do not have the MBC.

Thanks Dave and Chucky for the clarification. That includes yours truly with Airmatic suspension as well. I could not order the MBC even if I wanted it since I wanted 4Matic.

+1
ABC is great for ride comfort. No complaints ever and I have 20" rears on the SL with even wider/lower profile tires than you have on your S550.

Btw. The marks on your rims do look like tool marks from tire removal...

I'm pretty sure they were scuffed when I hit a lovely bit of road in Brooklyn NY's famous Belt Parkway.

Driving on the moon would be smoother...

That isn't what we are saying. It is 100% about the tire. I have NO OTHER PROBLEMS with this car.

Just wanted to make that clear.

As for what excites K-A...

Oh I'm aware that your issue lied solely with the RFTs and that you love everything else about your car. I threw that suspension issue in because I feel that 2 of the biggest issues with MB right now are the stiff suspensions (with the exception of the S Class) and now RFTs or MOEs starting to take effect.

I even suggested that RFTs would probably prematurely wear out suspension components due to the hard ride to Kratos and it was something he thought about as well. I don't always agree with K-A but he does make a few good points and arguments.

Good on you guys for hopefully starting some sort of change and hopefully more S Class owners will be vocal but in a professional manner about this RFT issue.

Well I turned that car upside down.....no wheel lock. I called my dealer....she said that my car didn't have it on the order, so my car doesn't have a lock. I have to purchase one for $140. Learn something new everyday, never knew you have to remember to order a wheel lock. Been buying cars for years and still don't know everything.

Anyway, I took the car back home disappointed that something so small kept me from putting my new tires on. Oh well.....guess I have to wait till I can get to MB on Friday. I'm gonna call beforehand though and make sure they have a lock in stock before I go.

Can I call BS here? The car will NOT have locking lug nuts unless it was ordered. I have never heard of a car having locking wheel but but no key.

I would tell the dealer they better fix it, and fix it now.
