About to join the S family...
Coming off a '12 CLS550, absolutely love the car and everything about it. Nimble (for it's size), fast, amazing interior, just stellar.
The S, clearly, is a bigger car (a full 1-foot longer) so this will change the dynamics quite a bit.
I've driven it for 30 minutes, it's a masterpiece from the tech on board, interior (wow), styling is great, etc.
My car is Palladium, and the S has limited color options. Thinking either Iridium or Anthracite Blue Metallic - any thoughts?
Also, what are some thoughts from drivers coming from smaller, more nimble (lighter cars) > S-Class?
I live in LA so you're in bumper to bumper traffic 80% of the time, but not sure a spirited night drive is happening anymore with the S!
The other options are the S-Coupe ($20k more and won't be available for a while, also, still a massive car). The AMG GT looks awesome, but still 6+ months away.
Just looking for some insight on what you love/hate about the car and what you've had in the past.
the car IS huge, I still drive my CLS on weekends

it took a bit of getting used too for sure just because of the size.....I'd also add it isn't as easy to use the controls in the S because all the buttons and functions are inside command......although there are shortcuts for certain things: music, massage etc.....
having an actual button to go to is nice versus having to dial it up in the command menu....
driving is like a boat; but not really a bad thing you know? the stop and go traffic would probably get to me, but turn the eco off and things get better..
the exterior styling isn't that great; good thing we spend all the time IN the car because that is where it really shines......absolutely beautiful and very well crafted/////

other will chime soon
I’m a relative newbie here. I traded my BMW 550i for my 2015 S550 4MATIC – taking delivery at the end of July. My car is iridium silver / black nappa interior. I think the exterior styling is voluptuous – but agree with Hyperion – that the interior is where the S Class truly shines. Exterior fit & finish is very good. The cabin is roomy, quiet, luxurious, & the seats are fantastic. Transitioning from BMW’s iDrive to MB’s Command system isn't too bad - just have to get used to menu tree within Command.
Yes, it’s a big car & it drives like a big car. It’s accelerates hard (quicker than my BMW 550i) & the brakes are rock-solid. The chassis delivers a smooth, comfortable luxury car ride. You can firm up the suspension electronically for spirited driving - but the car doesn't like to be pushed hard.
I ordered my car in April, took delivery on July 31st. If I could change anything, I’d have added the Burmester 3D sound system.
Enjoy !

I wasn't aware it came with run flats - I had these on a 550i BMW and they were awful. Why is that btw?
To be honest, the S is an amazing car but it doesn't "excite me" and I'm not sure there's anything exciting about it. Of course it's a marvel of engineering but this is what I worry about here: no excitement.
I'm looking at the S-Coupe now, $133k built to order - while I haven't driven the coupe yet, it definitely looks more exciting. Yet it's a still a massive car.
It's tough for me because I LOVE the CLS but a) don't want another one since they're facelifting the car next year and b) want something newer/better/shinier (Don't we all).
Advise: get the color that your gut first latches onto.
Me, I wanted a 12 cylinder engine and a big luxurious vehicle. The S600 has both in spades.
{Now if I could simply get through (i.e., learn) the rest (90%) of the feature commands and controls......}

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
It pulls nicely, but I want to say the CLS550 is as fast if not faster than the S-Coupe off the line. It's a heavy beast.
Placed an order for car #5 to be delivered at my dealer.
S-Coupe, Iridium Silver, Black/Black Wood, Leather wheel, 20 inchers, Sport, Premium, Safety, etc. Total came to $133k, no build slot yet, but looking like February for me...
