I will soon get my new S560. It is on its way from Germany, but it looks like it did not leave Sindelfingen yet. I am tracking it in the app, picture below.

I am a longtime lurker, and have enjoyed this forum and learned many things. I want to give something back, so i am joining this forum. I hope to help others, who struggle with the many options on this car.

S500 have been my dream car for 20 Years. At least. I have tried several other cars, but Mercedes has always been the best for me.

In my country, i should probably have selected another engine, because of the high taxes. I could buy three Telsa Model S lower spec the same price in my country. That would be more sensible. We have the highest density of Tesla in the world.

I was also toying with the idea of a S63, there is not a big difference in price. Why did i not buy a S63 AMG? Noise, comfort, looks (not elegant enough), lack of Magic Body Control. And if i wanted a sports car, i would not buy a S-Class at all. Of course it would be fun to have some times. But ultimately my choice was made for comfort and less sound. I can understand why people buy them, but on paper its crazy. I second guess my self all the time on the S63.

I almost bought the Maybach, there was a even smaller difference in price. But i wanted the car for my selv, not mostly for the passengers. To hard to park? To long to enjoy? Less sporty? I think so.

After several months of deliberation, i decided to go for the S560 with the AMG line styling and every single thing i could get of equipment. That was incredibly hard, as for many things i chose, some things would be impossible to get. I only held back on the stupid tinting sunroof, it is incredibly expensive. But i ended up buying that also. I also got the 19" AMG wheels, to get better comfort and handling. I tried my hardest not to get the AMG line plus, because that would change the seats to AMG seats. I like the look of the luxury seats better.

There where also some problems with getting Magic Body Control. 4Matic is the only choice in my country. We have a cold climate. But they worked it out in the end.

I will be posting pictures and updates. I want to thank the forum members, who has helped me choose what i got in my car. I will be adding some things to the car when it gets here.

I think the best looking version of the front is the AMG line. This was one of the deciding factors against getting the S63 AMG. But i will be getting AMG exhaust tips at some point. I cannot find this yet for my car online. Looks like i will have to change most of the rear bumper. I think the original looks too weak and bland. Cannot decide if i am getting chrome or black tips. Any opinions?

Xpel PPS. My last car was driven 440 000KM. It was black, and the front was full of white marks. I will not have that agin. Expensive, but peace of mind.

Laser Door Courtesy Light . I love it.

Video in Motion . I dont care about anything in this package (yet) except turning of the ECO button. It drives me crazy in my loaner, E220d Allroad, a lovely car.

Dynamic Select memory . Also drives me crazy.

COMAND Audio20 AMG-style I am not sure about this, but i would like to have the option. Not a fan of faking AMG things, but looks like i will be getting more info. Wich i love. Reversible. For anyone else thinking about ordering this, it is only for the right screen.


WILL ORDER:

Dashcam. Thinking about Blackvue DR750S 2CH 16GB . Open to suggestions on other cams. I hate to get a new car torn apart to install this, but i also would like to be protected with evidence in an accident.

AMG steering wheel Love this, but it was not possible to get, with my combination of interior (Black interior, luxury seats, sport line. Not happy about it, but will have to buy it i think. Need it in black, have not seen it yet on the web. If you have info on this item, please let me know. Can i just order it from MB?

Bluetooth-based CarPlay. Hate to have to pull out my phone and plug-in (stolen line, thanks Wolfman) Somebody invent adapter please.

It will be interesting to get your feedback from Norway. I have a white/white '15 S550 V4 and love it. I drove an '18 S560 today and was impressed with the car. I'll be purchasing one during the coming months.

Can you post the list of options you chose ?

Location and last update.

 

Tried to build my car in the american configurator, to give you a list, but it was not possible. That was even harder than in my home country. Like i said, when i choose one thing, another one would get removed. I spent several months(!) to get my car perfect. What would help me in the end, after several discussions with my dealer, was that anything i could build in the german configurator, they could deliver. I dont understand german, but with a lot of knowledge about options and Google translator, i would finally figure it out. My dealer would doubt some of the things, like combination of AMG Line/Natural grain black ash wood/Black exlusive nappa Leather, but after some digging he figured it out. I cannot understand why Mercedes would not make it easyer for me to get the car like i wanted it. I had to spend too much time on this, i love this car, but it got to be too much.

On another topic, does anyone remember how to deactivate a keyless go key? I remember reading about a key press combination that will deactivate it, if you are not going to use the spare key for some time. And i also saw the youtube video of stolen keyless go . I tried to find the one with a team of thieves who steals a S500 in broad daylight, when guy goes in a shop, anyone have a link?

I think you should be getting chrome tips as they look nicer to me and enhances the rear end more than a black tips would do

 

I think you are right about that. On the other hand, i do not want a flashy car, or i would buy a Panamera. Muted luxury is what i want. But it does look good in chrome. Other opinions?

I'd be checking every Hour! I was extremely obsessive while my Stingrays were being built!

Your post is totally exciting to me. Grateful for this forum. Without it, I'd be a totally obsessed car lover without anyone else to relate to. I used to be and am still... a BMW obsessed car lover but for the 3rd time in a row, I'm getting yet another S63 as they seem nice to me than the similar 7 series of the respective year. Can't wait to hear about your car when you get it and see all the pics. I'm living vicariously through your story.

 

Its almost the same story for me. Of all my friends, some have really nice cars, but only because they can afford it, but they dont care a lot about them. Only one friend of mine have the same passion, and he has had a bad time with money and health in the last years. He always had a lot of nice cars and love BMW, and 7 series the most. I make sure when i have a really nice car myself or loaner, he can drive them some. I love to talk about cars with him and test drive cars with him. I also try to give him some opportunities to get back on his feet. We have a dream about driving in Europe with our S-class and 7 Series in the future, but it will take him some time to get back.

But otherwise its the same for me, i love to read about you guys. Also it helps with youtube, there are a lot of interesting videos there.

 

Turns out the tracking on the map is not to be trusted. The car is in my country, and still shows on the map in Germany. I will get it in a week or so.

 

 

It could be that the gps must be on for some time, the latest movement has been for a minute. Maybe in and out of trains and ships, with little to no GPS coverage. I know it is in a customs storage for the last several days.

Location last online, and i know for sure the car is in the port of Drammen, Norway, since at least the last week:

 

There has been movement. I dont know how they went from 4% to 2% fuel in 17 minutes, but maybe i missed something. It has also been low battery for a while.
So it looks like it is on its last leg of the journey. Hopefully, its on the train again, and will soon be here. I am not going to the new car train terminal to check if its here(I am).

I have had some problems with the car.

Some engine/transmission fault. Warranty, they changed some parts. Warranty.
Some small things.
Burmester Audio problems, described in another thread. DECLINED WARRANTY!
Had it for service, surprisingly cheap. Yes i drive a lot.

Overall the car is great.

Installed my front and rear dash cam fairly easy. No panels need to be removed, wires slip in the cracks of the trim pieces pretty easy. I have read of problems finding switched power in the cabin of new S Classes. I hooked mine up to unswitched works better when parked. Unless you buy a dedicated battery for it.
