Question about tires for 2015 S550

I recently purchased a 2015 S550 4Matic. Driving it in New York.

The tires it came with were:
Front tires are: ProContact GT SSR 245/45 R 19 102
Back tires are: ProContact GT SSR 275/40 R19 101

1. Is this the right combination? Or do the front and back tires need to be exactly the same size?
2. I need to replace front tires. Do I need to buy same brand? Or can I get any brand, as long as these numbers are the same (245/45 R 19 102) ?

I'll assume that "ProContact" is the brand there which I've never heard of. I personally would never buy some off brand tire like that. Tires are pretty important to me.

The fronts and the rears are likely different sizes. You can look at the sticker on the drivers door pillar and see what size came on it. I'd surely go back with the propers sizes if you don't have them already.

To answer your question about what brand to put back on it, If you don't care about tires beyond them being black and having tread then yes you can put any brand on the fronts you want.

If it were me I'd replace all four with a good tire. You can go to tirerack.com and find your car/sizes and see what gets good ratings.

1. Is this the right combination? Yes, Or do the front and back tires need to be exactly the same size? staggered sizes are de rigueur these days.

If all you replace are the fronts you need to buy the same brand, same size, and to the extend possible, from the same month of manufacture.
If you replace all 4, you are free to buy whatever you like of proper sizing.

They are Continental tires.

Oh god you can put any brand tires on the car, personally I would put the same ones that are on it so they match. Tires are the correct size for the car.

If you drive like a grandma any brand tires will do. If you want comfort or performance then better quality brands are the way to go.

Great brands make crap tires too, and vice versa.

Don't go by brand. Go by reviews.

Come on people, picking tires is not that hard::

Go to "tire rack"
Click on "tires"
Click on "by performance category"
Click on either "all season performance" or "summer performance" depending on where you live.
Click on any of the top 3 submenus in your chosen section.
Pick any of the top 4 tires in any of the top 3 sections that fit your car.

Presto, you can't go wrong.

Never seen a Continental Procontact GT. I've seen some GXs. I figured it was some off brand trying to sound like a brand name. I bought "sharkie" brand magic markers the other day.

I was guessing that the T was a mistake given that the rest of it fit and they come on W222's

I'm mostly New Jersey but sometimes New York - if manhattan you want a tire that can hold up to more abuse (potholes). if long island or more suburban then i'd recommend what i got from tire rack which is the continental extreme contact DWS (i think DWS?) - i'm actually having one replaced later today - slow leak.
front tires are a bit narrower than the rear tires on my AMG wheel package 2016 S550.
My car came with summer tires (run flats) which i took off right away - i got the car delivered when it was snowing, and summer tires harden below 45 degrees.
Yeah, run flat winter tires swapped with summer seasonably might have been the way to go, but i didn't want to be bothered.
Folks have also switched out their run flats for more comfortable conventional tires. personally, i'd rather have a worse ride and fun flats - i'm a nervous guy, but there are no run flat all seasons in my size, so....
i'm happy with the continentals. i'd check tire rack if you can just replace what you have with newer ones, or if the extreme contact might be a step up and then i'd replace both front at the same time, and both rear at the same time. extra bonus to replace all 4 at once.
just my .02 - good luck and welcome to the site!
