2015 S550 4Matic Rubbing sound

When going over a speedbump I occasionally here a groaning sound from the left front of the car. Almost like a bushing is rubbing on something. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Sounds like I may have a bad strut. Talked to a company that rebuilds Merc airmatic struts and they said it sounded like the internal dampener on the strut was bad. They also said that Mercedes had a rash of these that were bad and that they had extended the warranty on this part due to that. Any truth to that, or should I just order a new strut. A rebuilt one with a lifetime warranty is only around 400 bucks but would rather have Mercedes do the work if it is covered. Otherwise no big deal.

Both front & rear original struts are replaced indicating modification however, to the best of my knowledge only the attached bulletin was release for rear. Current part #s: front left 222320811389, right 222320821389; rear 2223207313, 222320741380.

Update. It was a bad strut. Swapped the strut for a new reman unit and the noise is gone and car rides a little better in the front. Got the strut for 425 bucks after 100 core deposit with a lifetime warranty. Took about 2 hours to swap, very easy. Got the unit from rebuild master tech out of Florida.

One thing I noticed when I was disassembling the suspension was that there was a hard wax like substance on all of the nuts and bolts. Any idea what that is. I did use blue thread lock on everything when I was reassembling.

Was it there to prevent corrosion?

I am wondering if it is some form of factory threadlock. Not sure why it would be needed based on the types of fasteners used and the torque values of the bolts but just wondering. I doubt it is a corrosion prevention measure as it looked like it was just dolloped on the threads a bit.

Ok from your description I imagined it covering the bolts and nuts.
