Hardwired Escort Passport

I just hardwired my passport to the 12v outlet in the dash. Pretty simple and about time I contribute.

You need to remove the ashtray, no need to reinvent the wheel here is a great video:

T-Tap the brown wire (negative)

T-Tap the black wire (positive)

Easy.

This was INCORRECT. Took some troubleshooting to realize that the brown was negative and black positive forgot to take a new pic.

This is one of the two spots it will be able to bypass the solar protection for signal

Did not need velcro just tucked the wire in.

Hope this helps someone! -Ajay

save yourself the grief and wire to the fusebox on the drivers side edge of the dash. you can run the wires up under the weatherstripping and its a much cleaner install.

Please expand on this, as I am ready to hardwire and thought I would have to snake it out to the fuse box under the hood? Thanks

Well, it really depends on what year your S Class is. In my old 2015 S550, I was able to run the wires to the driver's fuse box bcz there were a couple of switched fuses in there. However, when I got my 2018 S560 the situation changed and there are no switched fuses in the cabin at all, unless you want to re-wire something, like the cigarette lighter. I posted a few photos of my 2015 setup which should be available by searching the forum.

My local car accessories (stereo, lighting etc) shop has done hard wiring on several of my cars, including MB's for $25-$35 in as little as 15 minutes. Not worth messing with it myself. If your shop charges more they either are screwing you or don't know what to do.

Pop the cover, find the switched fuses (18 and 19 if I remember correctly) and then wire from there up the pillar, under the headliner and over to the solar opening in the window.

Thank you. I have a 2016. I see the side cover but no rectangular door? Pop the entire side cover off on the drivers side. Did some pulling it's not coming off easy, not like a cover meant to come off?
