TIGHT GAS CAP

Ok my wife always complained about the cap being tight but to me it was ok but maybe on the stiff side. Now that I have been using car I noticed it was tighter than what it should be in my head. I went to get gas and usually dont even look as its done it reposition mode as I'm on the phone.

This time I dont know what made me look in the filler neck and to my surprise was all these very minute little metal filings. At first I'm like who dumped something in my car but then realized it was the tight filler cap. I used a napkin at the gas station and was shocked at how much came off. After I cleaned I put the cap on and off and sure enough there were more very small metal filings. I called dealer and they seamed to know about them being tight and brushed it off as saying it wont hurt anything there are filters.

I agree with the filter deal but anybody else have this issue? If you have a tight cap have a look as you like me might never have noticed it. I have a new cap on order so will see if it feels any different.

My gas cap has been tight for a while. I just went out to the garage and checked my filler neck and sure enough there were metal particles! I am scheduled for Service B next week and will have them check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

Are there metal tabs like most gas caps that can be slightly bent with a pair of needle nose pliers to make it fit snug instead of so tight?

Just had by Service B done yesterday. Had them check out the particles in the filler neck. They agreed the cap was too tight and replaced it. They cleaned out the filler neck and said the particles were plastic from the locking ring of the cap.

I have to disagree with them as the neck is metal and the cap tangs that create the friction fit are also metal.

I have filled ups couple times and already I have a small amount there. I will take pic.

Im having B done also so good to know they changed it. Although they should flush and change filter no matter what the derby is.
