Just discovered something on our 2018 S560; hope someone can explain what it is. In the right rear door, there is an interior storage compartment that runs along the length of the bottom of the door. There is a dark brown or black insert in that compartment that has a cutout obviously intended to securely hold some object. The cutout, in the insert, is shaped like an oversized magnifying glass. The insert is about 8” in length and perhaps 2” wide. Any idea what this insert is intended for? The insert is only in the right rear door, no insert is present in the left rear door. It is glued in place; obviously not intended to be removed.
Possibly an umbrella, but unlikely. Looks like it would hold a mini gavel - can't imagine why anyone would need that in their vehicle. I had the car for almost 2 years and this is the first time I have ever noticed this.
It is for the ashtray cup. If you look on your build sheet or sticker for the car I think it comes with the rear executive seating package.
Thank you. Indeed, I did have that ashtray cup but set it aside when I purchased the car as I had no need for it. Took it out tonight, sure enough, it's a perfect fit for the storage area.
On my Maybach the rear entertainment remote controls fit into the front of the holder and then the ash tray fits in the rear of the holder.
I have rear executive seating and entertainment. Flat spot is remote and round is ashtray. I have 3 remotes that came with the car, 1 front and 2 rear...
You learn something new every day. I have the ashtray and was keeping it in the center console. I read this thread and found the insert in the right rear door storage area. My ashtray is now stored properly. This should go in one of those 10 things you didn't know about your Mercedes videos. I haven't seen this anywhere else.
