2015 S Class how bullet proof?

Currently have 2012 E550 which has been pretty bullet proof and have put 120k on it.

Looking at 2015 S Class with < 10k miles on her. VIN WDDUG8FB3FA126186 (if anyone has the ability & patience to run a check on it). Wondering if worth the upgrade from E to S, knowing that there will be a bump in maintenance but also driving experience. In New England area......thanks in advance for opinions

Michael

Read this forum section, and you will find comments suggesting the late-teens (i.e. 2017 or so) S-Class is one of the most reliable versions. The 2015 is the same W222 platform, so barring early model year issues, it should share the reliability of the later W222 model years.

The M278 engine, introduced in 2010, is widely used, as is the 722.9 7G-Tronic transmission introduced in 2003.

Comments can be found regarding massage seats, soft close doors and air suspensions. If the car has a full service history and is well sorted, it might be for you. Mysterious "issues" and lack of full service history would be red flags for me.

96K miles European delivery 2015 S ..had wheel bearing and steering shat replaced@90K+,otherwise no issues..I took 100K mile factory warranty and it paid off.drive it year around and plan to keep it as it is more reliable than a Panamera and more Luxurious than E.

jayagopal, I’m interested in your Panamera experience. What are the differences in your view between the S-Class and Panny from a reliability point of view? The Panamera is on my radar for future consideration.

Would like to also hear a comparison from a driving perspective. I rode in a Panny once and it seemed pretty impressive from a ride / handling balance point of view.

I have a 2015 that I purchased a few years ago. Had 17K miles when I picked it up, now it has 38K and it has been flawless. I have done brakes, filters and tires. I do have an odd sound out of the brake master cylinder but I think that might just be a touch of air in the line. Need to bleed the brakes this spring. Touchpad on the console has never worked which is fine as I did not like it when I tried it in another car.

But it's also good against hand grenades too, not only bullet proof, but hand grenade proof.

I bought one of the First Panamera's with 6 cylinder engines in Michigan.I special ordered it as i do not like all the bells and whistles..initially, a few hiccups which were resolved..However multiple times car would not start and had to be towed to dealer..Covered by warranty..as the warranty was coming to an end,I wrote to Porsche Of NA asking that my Warranty be extended for 2 more years or 100K[approaching 60K] and they declined, offered $1000 voucher,as each service was costing above $1000[IF no warranty]/I decided to bail out..The dealer sold it shortly after changing tires and giving his own, 3 year warranty [which they declined to me].
Driving Experience was Excellent..very powerful, comfortable, and great interiors[compared to my older 964 ] did a lot of 500 mile trips..Passenger seats were appreciated by the passengers..If not for the engine problems I would have kept it..Used Snow tires for Michigan Winters..I am more satisfied with MB reliability than Porsche's..S being my 3rd.

Very Sorry, forgot to mention that the problems were LATER traced to Engine Control Module..[on Panamera]
