S Class W222 Missing Piece of Trim Over Front Cup Holders

Hi again everyone,

I hope someone can help me out here. I have recently purchased an S350 Bluetec (W222). I feel like there should be a lid or cover that slides back and forth over the front cup holder section of the dashboard. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

I have attached some photos of the area in question on my car and you will see there is no lid or panel to slide back and forth. I just need to know if this is by design or whether it is in fact missing some trim?

If it is missing the trim, any ideas where I can get a replacement?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

The door is there but likely pushed too far underneath the other wood trim. You should be able to dislodge it by trying to get underneath and pull it back toward the trackpad.

Thanks for replying. How can you tell it is there? Do you mean towards the left or right of the photos I have displayed?

I think if you look at the left side of your photos, in front of the hazard warning light switch, put your fingers just inside the opening, there is a tiny strip of "bumps" ( showing as white dots in the picture ) , if you push this area towards the rear of the car by a few millimetres the wooden top cover should then spring out and up to cover the whole area.

we have all been in a situation where we do not notice something, fingers crossed you will find it !, look forward to hear your reply .
When I first got my w222 18 months ago I could not find the accessory socket in the front ( not the power outlet in the armrest ) , I searched all over and eventually found it, have you found the socket on yours yet ?

I haven't even looked for the accessory socket yet. Where should I find that?

Thankfully you were correct. There seems to be an issue with my cover being stuck. I'm not sure if it is dirt or something else but it feels very stiff and does not slide back and forth smoothly. Any ideas what I should do to clean it or help lubricate the mechanism?

Incidentally, I have the same issue with many of the air vent dials. You know the little dials that spring in and out? Some of them are stuck and do not pop out when you push them. What can I use to lubricate or fix?

Ok, regarding the sticking items, I would use a silicon spray, WD40 do a silicon spray, make sure you do not use normal WD40 as it will be messy.
Their cans have a "straw" to help spray in awkward places. I think, from memory the can lid might be yellow ( my can is outside in the back of my van at the moment. )
I have found the spray to help me in lots of cases, been using silicon sprays for maybe 10 years or more.
Regarding the accessory socket, if you look at the dashboard where the four centre air vents are , below the vents are a row of buttons for the air con etc, just below those is a pop out flap maybe 10" wide, push it in first and it will pop out, there is a cigarette lighter/accessory socket and a space next to it to the left.
Hope you enjoy your car, mine is a 2015, it is the first S Class I have had and I am really pleased with it.

I can't thank you enough. I have found the accessory socket and I will get some WD40 silicon spray and use it carefully to hopefully sort the sticking issues. You may not know the answer to this last issue I have. When I start the car, I get an icon on the screen in front of the steering wheel that warns me that a system is not active or disabled. It is an image of two cars, one behind the other and I think it is indicating a collision. Perhaps some sort of collision warning system? Any idea what this is? Thanks again for your time, I appreciate it!

Glad to be able to help, I use these forums a lot, I am on the Jaguar UK and USA forums and the UK Ford Transit van forum as well , over the years they have been invaluable for help.
At a guess I think that could be the adaptive cruise control, the image you mentioned sounds like the image that shows when you want to increase or decrease the following distance when the adaptive cruise is engaged.
You can check if your car has adaptive cruise by seeing if there is a rectangular piece of plastic about 6" wide and 4" deep in the upper centre area of your grill on the front of the car.
If you can get a photo of the image on the dashboard nest time it pops up then it will help us to find what it is for.

I don't have that sensor in the grill. The car doesn't have the lane tracking thing, disctronic I think it is called? I will take a photo next time it appears and show you. Thanks again, you have been a great help.

Just found this image on google , this one is for a collision avoidance system, maybe if a car does not have distronic adaptive cruise then it may have this instead ?

ok. Take a look at this link, it might help you out, there appears a way to actually turn it on and off by pushing a couple of things at the same time, might be worth a read through.

Hi, sorry to bother you again. New problem tonight I wonder if you have any advice on. In the below photo you will see I have marked out a little plastic cover in the engine bay. I took this cover off today and when I went to put it back, the plastic fastenings did not seem to work anymore. So now the cover is loose. Any idea where I can get the correct plastic clips / fastenings for this piece of plastic trim / cover?

Many thanks.

Hi
Not a problem at all, my S Class is covered up at the moment so I cannot see the parts but I am guessing they are similar to the jaguar ones, here is a link to Amazon where a complete selection set might have what you want, and a lot more as well !

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOXNRFA-Retainer-Plastic-Fasteners-Chrysler/dp/B07GJB7K5H/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=under+bonnet+cover+fixing+screws&qid=1602612052&sr=8-4 https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOXNRFA-Retainer-Plastic-Fasteners-Chrysler/dp/B07GJB7K5H/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=under+bonnet+cover+fixing+screws&qid=1602612052&sr=8-4
very good value and hopefully should do the trick.
Normally that kind of fixing can be pushed home to fix but either needs unscrewing or prising up with a prising tool ( included in the selection kit ) to release.
I have also used on numerous occasions the other prising tools for popping off door panels etc , they are plastic so do not damage anything

Are you in the UK ?

I have actually already bought that kit and none of the fixings in it are long enough. Yes I am in the UK. I need a fixing that is at least 1 inch long.

Appreciate it. I have the original fixing but there doesn't seem to be anything for it to attach to. Any ideas would be great if you can check yours. Thanks again !!

Look what I have just found, it seems they are available form main dealers for very little !

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...fasteners.html

Ebay has them here

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-M...-/114366338957

They may fit into this part

I think that second ebay part is what im missing then. I have the 1st part you found on ebay but it just sits loose and there is nothing for it to screw into. Would you mind checking on your car tomorrow for me to see whether you have something underneath the turning screw that it screw into?

Be careful when you check tomorrow because if there is a ENGINE COVER FASTENING ELEMENT underneath the Turning Screw Engine Compartment Clip, then when you undo the turning screw I think the fastening element will drop down and be lost. I think this is what has happened to me.
