Going to be a few weeks before I can install it.
If you go to a dealer they can get the part sooner and will probably install it quickly, but you pay for that service.
I sprayed some silicone lubrication in there for now.
Had the same issue and thanks to the forum, was able to find the campaign. Seems like an easy fix, but its also a 0.4hr job ...may be easier to just get the dealer to it. Attached the instructions just in case ...

Perhaps check out the W220 forum for help with that.

I just replaced my latch with this from Amazon. Obviously, I don’t have a long term review.

It took about an hour. I used the beginning of this video as a guide.

notes:
the only tools were a T30 wrench and a screwdriver to remove the plastic fasteners.
you only need to remove the trunk lid liner. You do not need to remove the arm covers, and do not remove the two square-holed bumpers. You will have to reach in and unplug the lights and buttons.
to remove the key cylinder, just loosen the T30 screw and turn the cylinder a quarter turn.

Follow-up to my nov 19 post:
It’s been really cold here, and I’m confirming that I haven’t had my trunk pop open once since replacing the latch.

I just had this happen to mine. This is the second time. I resolved the issue the first time by pushing the green button on the inside of the trunk.

However this time that did not resolve the issue. Temps were below freezing for about a week before it happened. This time I resolved it by taking a screwdriver and manually latching the trunk while it is open. then i hit the red button on the trunk lid. The latch opened and the trunk went on to work as it should with no further issue. But im dreading the next time this happens that i wont have a solution.

I expect better from the benchmark luxury sedan.

I had this same problem with my 2017 SL. Your trunk closing motor probably needs to be replaced. The motor has had 4 different design changes since 2016. Problems seem to occur when it is exceptionally cold outside. Replacement motor was $450.74 plus labor.

It's a common problem when cold. Very annoying too, especially when driving cross country. Carry a bungee.

Lubricant didn't help and the green button only worked a few time, so I ended up having the latch replaced.

Been happening to my 2020 S560. Green button had been helping but not any longer. Dealer confirms they will fix for free under my CPO warranty fortunately. Hopefully they can look at the fuel door, which has also started acting up.

You’re just gonna have to live with that now, it. Will some times close on it’s own and when it doesn’t, just hold it down with a hand for a good 2 seconds until you hear the lock engage. I don’t believe you have to manually lock it. Also apply some pressure when holding the trunk down

Just go on eBay and buy a new trunk actuator, I paid $135 took me maybe an hour to install? I grabbed it off of a 2020, now perfect even in the coldest of N. East weather

You think buying the aftermarket is a better strategy than having the dealer replace for free under warranty? As in- your expecting the issue will just come back vs the aftermarket is an improvement?

im a DIY and do almost all of our maintenance, but free sounds better to me.

I mean if the dealer is going to replace it under warranty then do it but at the same time.. the requires making the appt and dropping it off waiting probably 1-2 days for something that takes an hour then picking it up etc. - for my car it took 10 years for the original to start acting up and I bought OEM on ebay did it in my driveway and done.

I had this issue a few months ago on my 2019 S560. After reading google, the fix was to turn car off and press and release the trunk open button on the drivers door a couple of times. This worked for me on the first try. I guess it resets the locking system. Also try with car on if car off does not work.

I hope that helps.

Yes, I tried all of these tricks and they 'usually' worked, but like others I also had times where the bungie cord was the final answer. dealer fixed mine today for free under CPO extended warranty. took just over an hour. if goes bad again, I'll probably resort to the aftermarket solution and DIY

Glad you got it fixed. Using a bungee was ridiculous. I even had a story if someone asked what it was for.
