The car really is a highway machine. So nice to have the Distronic doing most of the driving while I sit back and get my hot stone massage lol. It definitely has more poise in on curvy roads than my LS460L did. There are several sections along I-64 through Clifton Forge, VA where in the Lexus I would have to back off from the cruise set at 80 because it just felt too fast for those curves, in the S Class that wasn't necessary.

I also have gotten used to the Burmester audio with my subwoofer upgrade, it really sounds good now and I enjoyed it as much as I did the ML in the Lexus.

Didn't get to drive it around a ton while I was down there, a lot of the places we go have bad gravel roads and such getting back to them so my brother drives. One of the reasons I thought about getting a Range Rover. Did go out to Beckley for dinner and drove, which is about 30 miles away and they loved the car. I don't know if its because I had so many different Lexuses for so long, but peoples reaction to this car is way bigger than when I would get a new Lexus, my wife included she really likes it. And she gets about as excited about a car as a new blender...maybe less so lol.

Another thing that worked really well was the 4G hotspot. I stream AmazonMusic HD and use Google Maps through CarPlay with the satellite mode. When just using my phone data on this trip I would often have music dropouts and issues with the map rendering when cell coverage got spotty. Never happened once with the hotspot running, even when my phone had no signal.

Got great mileage, better than the Lexus and that was RWD, and thats with heavy cross/headwinds. Washed it today and got all the bugs knocked off of it.

Here's a picture of the trip data from the trip home:
Man... the 2018+ gauge cluster is gorgeous!

Feel for you guys living in places where the highest legal speed in the entire state is 60 or 80 is "reckless driving".

I'm headed to Houston tomorrow ... I take state highway 71 to Columbus and it's now 75 the whole way. And should be, wide open road and usually lightly traveled. Then I hop on 10 east and it's 70 or 75 all the way into town. In many stretches on the 10 the left lane is running 80 -85. If my wife's with me, we take the HOV 2+ lane starting in Katy and outside of the rush hour that's an easy 75 - 80 almost all the way to the 610 loop.

I leave plenty of room in front of me and don't run up anyone's backside, but let the S550 do what it was made to do and it feels great!

Bottom line, from my driveway to the Galleria in just over two hours. That's civilized!

Agree. TX, NM and AZ have some nice stretches of 75mph posted limits. Even Michigan has a growing number of highway miles posted at 75mph.

In Michigan if you drive the speed limit, safest thing to do is to stay in the right lane...

Could be. It's only been out on the interstate once since I got it. And that was on the trip home from the dealership when I bought it. And then I never even thought of putting it in sport when I was cruising at 75. Working from home in the winter because of COVID means its legs don't really ever get exercised or hardly driven at all. But I'm sure I'll have some opportunities this summer with golf season coming.

Looks just like my 2015....other than the speed limit sign and fuel/temp gauges. I definitely prefer that fuel gauge over the stupid percentage in 5% increments. I wonder if there is a way to have that flashed into a pre-facelift car?

Actually Texas has 80 posted on I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio. Parts of I-20 may also be 80. Most of the western countries are all at 75. All perfect for these cars which are built to run in comfort

The posted limit is 65 here, and 80 an acceptable rate of travel in the interstates.
What's the over on the higher posted limits?

The posted limits on those roads are 70, its just in VA more than 20 over the limit, or 80 whatever the limit is becomes "reckless driving". VA cops are mean as hell too.

The screen is much higher resolution and sharper on the 18-20 than it is on the 14-17. I have a good friend with a 2015, its a pretty dramatic difference. The 18-20 also has all the configurable display modes.

Mean is not the word I would choose to describe the cops making their quotas. Here in NC a law was passed allowing the pigs to be able to pull you for going 1 over! Yes, 1. if they feel like it.
I got pulled once for making fun of a cop going faster than everyone else.....you know, hands gripped, bouncing up and down as if I was racing him.....guess he wasn't in a fawking hurry after all the douche he was. It's not uncommon to see them in the passing (fast lane) going 80 most days.

Here's an example
