A/C Not Working all of Sudden
I searched through threads and there seems to be issues with pinhole sized punctures in the a/c parts, but nothing else. Has anyone had any similar issues?
Our system has the same fundamental elements as every car ... a refrigerant charge that's compressed, cooled and then expanded to chill a heat exchanger under the dash. Then, in addition to those basic processes we have electronic controls that are specific to our Mercedes.
If you want to get a leg up on the repair process, you could take the car to any qualified A/C repair shop and ask them to check the refrigerant charge and pressures using gauges that attach to the high and low pressure ports of the system. That would give you a good idea if there are any leaks that might have caused loss of refrigerant and pressure in the system. If you have lost refrigerant, the shop can use a dye and other methods to try to locate where the leak(s) is coming from.
These are the same first steps your dealer would do but if you want to know sooner, this would give you a good starting point.
I ended up taking it into another dealership that could fit me in so I wouldn't have to wait till Wednesday. Turned out to be the A/C compressor [insert crying emoji], total cost parts/labor is roughly 2745.00. I'm sure my Indy mechanic could get it done cheaper, but I just had them go ahead and fix it so I can have a loaner for the next few days. Funny, I got the dealership email shortly before getting notified that I got a 15% raise at my job so things always have a way of working themselves out.
