W222 with Executive Rear Seat Plus - new to this car!

Ashtray cut out?

What goes in this cut out in center console?
I got extremely lucky and found a beautiful 2016 W222 S550 4MATIC with the two seater rear executive seat plus package. This car is awesome and I picked it up certified for less than half the $130k MSRP. What’s better is that it is pristine without dents, dings and only one small rim blemish that will be easily cleaned up and fixed with a little elbow grease.

I was also fortunate enough to get one with SplitView. May not seem a big deal to all, but since I’m a MD resident it’s not a legal option here for brand new cars - be used isn’t an issue… however I don’t see too many of them regardless. We also had brand new head phones and 3 wireless remotes for the two rear DVD screens and 1 dedicatee to front operations.

I digress, with what may seem like silly questions but you will likely find them easily answered for me. Please and thank you….

1) Center console, in front, the console box is very shallow with 2 USB ports and 3 RCA jacks. My question is that I thought the box would be deeper - instead it’s very shallow and has an L shaped cut out, like a cord or tool should be in the opening… does this sound familiar? Moonroof tool? Pic attached.

2) similar question, in both rear doors, there is a circular cut out within the door panel pocket, I believe this is for the MB round ashtray with lid. I only question this because it was a cut off “arm” that attaches to the circular cut out, so wanted to double check. Pic attached.

3) I have 4 remotes - 3 in back armrests and 1 in glove box. I have two DVD screens and Split View. Should I have 4 remotes? I have 3 sets of headphones.

4) last but not least. Fine scratches on the piano black designo cover for rear cup holders and looking for advice on what would remove some of the fine scratches - pledge?

I have a 2014, Reason for small box is to make room for Rear Dual AC underneath. Don't have any tools in that area.

Circle is for ashtray, straight slot is for remote. I also have 3, 2 for rear and one for passenger.

headphones (2) for rear and (1) for passenger.

I leave mine open to avoid people from placing things on the cover. I usually keep clear water bottles in there for guests with the cooling feature turned on. The only option my car does not have is the rear fridge.

Congratulations with your ride!

Ya I got a similar configuration in a 2018 with the Chauffer package and 3d audio and many other cool options. I was shocked at first with the shallow center console as I was use to my 2017 center console which was huge. The reason it is so shallow and only good for your cell phone and some spare change in the front of it is because of the rear seat package, wires and a/c tubes run down the center of the car so there cant be a deep center console. As far as those weird shape cup holders in the doors I never did figure that one out.

Thanks for the info!

Thank you to those who weighed in. A few notes…

I was able to get split view working, which is just so damn cool even if it reduces resolution a little bit, to me it’s worth it.

I have 4 remotes, and have adjusted each wheel to represent something unique.
(1) in glove box set to control split view controlled by front seat passenger
(1) in rear for left screen
(1) in rear for right screen
(1) lastly, one set to COMAND that the rear passengers can use to adjust seat and other COMAND functions that are redundant to front controls.

all needed fresh batteries and they’re working very well now!

Thanks for the info on the cut out. I may buy two ashtrays for coins or other small items rather than have them in the door pocket or scratching up the center console. No one really smokes especially in a car like this. I will try putting a rear entertainment remote in the straight cut out beside the circular cut out for ashtray.

That thing by the door is storage for the remote and I know it because that's where I found mine.

Short anecdote:
I have the executive rear seat package (but not the plus) and my car came with only one remote and no headphones. Funnily, i inquired about how much it would cost me to buy a pair of headphones and a second remote, and while the headphones cost a rather reasonable 210 CHF each, the remote cost over 600!

Not sure I saw ... do you have the rear seat air conditioner? That makes for a shallow center console as the blower motor and evaporator are literally right under the console bin.

The "ashtray" is a silver colored cylindrical piece about the diameter of a soda can but half as tall. It has a hinged top. I think that's what the first molded area in your pics is for. My guess is the second molded area is for the remote control.

The rear reclining executive package is lovely comfortable seat. My in laws love being chauffered in the back. But my family NEVER uses the remotes or headsets in the rear. Old school DVD player, no modern wireless tech…. An iPad is much more convenient. Hope the W223 system is modern and tech friendly. My wife never uses the split screen.

I would love to know the part number for the ashtray that sits in the left side door (behind driver).
