S560 Long 4Matic (DE) MY 2018
Quenthel,
I'd like to confirm something. You said you can restart COMAND by "long press" the COMAND power button. I think you said press and hold? I ask because I just tried this on a GLC loaner and that did nothing. Are there different software versions for COMAND where some have this "power button reset" and some software versions do not?

Well, my center display blacked out again yesterday. I tried pushing the power button and tried a long hold.
It did not work.
What did work was just hitting the seat button on the center console and the display booted right up.

I still think my problem was electrical. Strange that I stepped in a puddle when I got in my car and that was when it happened.

infotainment going blanck
Middle display went dark. It came back after I turned off power, went outside, locked the car, waited 5 minutes, unlocked car, went inside. Seems like a part or cable problem. Service rep says "software update". How do you do a software update on a display?
Car is currently at dealer. They say there is also a fuel line recall they want to do?
I see electrical problems in my future.... I've only had this car for a few weeks.

cable which doubles as an earth when moved the screen came back on , i firstly thought it was the plug socket it goes into but after further invetigation it turned out to be the crimpimg where the cable goes
into the plug , so i borrowed a crimper recrimped the excisting crimping and hey presto everything is back to normal , so i hope this helps anyone else with similat peoblems

@zitsky does your display black out when your phone is plugged in? My 2019 would often do it on start up, and it happened last week on my 2020, t for me it seems to be related to CarPlay booting up, it could be that I have a bad phone cable, maybe I’ll swap it out, as I have some new spares!

MBWorld Fanatic!
I've experieced 2 such events over 4 years with my G550's COMAND system. Both times the behavior resembled a reboot following a software update, but there was no indication of such. System resumed normal operation after about a 1 minute blackout. Could be completely unrelated to this thread's anomaly, but thought I'd mention it.

[QUOTE=Quenthel;8615464Oh, as for minor electrical gremlins, I have had my share of those:[/QUOTE]
I was driving at night and the HUD at its lowest brightness setting was WAY too BRIGHT for me, so I looked around in the settings to turn it off.
I could never find how to turn it back on even after spending hours in the menu system,
but after about 1 year of being off it magically turned itself back on !?!
