Dash curling up problem
Ok.. Weird one.. I have a 2017 S550 still under CPO.. Although its been Hot in Texas seems strange that this is happening. My dash is releasing on both sides curling up and wrinkling across the dash. Picture attached. I took it into the dealership and they said its not covered under CPO.. estimate was $6K to replace the dash. I escalated to Mercedes corporate / Customer Advocacy and they also rejected coverage offering a 20% discount to replace. I went to an interior shop and they said they did not want to touch it as they would have to bring in a Mercedes mechanic to remove the dash to recover. No rips or tears.. just releasing all the way around and curling up.. Its getting worse. Any suggestions??

The fact that your dealer didn't cover it under the CPO warranty is beyond me. My buddy got his 911 dash replaced under the CPO program at Porsche. Personally, I'd try to make them pay for it. This isn't a wear & tear item, it's a product fault.

I am also struggling with this.. I went to the dealership and they said no.. Suggested I escalate to Mercedes Corporate / Customer advocacy which I did. They required pictures and quote from dealership which I did. A week later, I got a message declining coverage with a 20% discount to help out.. All I can do is file with the BBB I think...or... raise wholly hell getting madder than I was.. What do you suggest to "make them pay for it"? I escalated to corporate.. This is my third S550 and fourth Mercedes from the same dealership..

That's surpringly crappy, the problem is cosmetic is not covered under CPO so unless the dealership interceeds or you can link it to a functional issue like defroster not working or vision obstructed they can deny.
6k is actually surprisingly cheap for a new leather dash from MB, I'm guessing they are only replacing the top part?
If so alternative might be to pay indie to remove and take it to an upholstery already removed (or just glue it back depending on substrate) .

Without seeing opposite side, remove center cover to see if affected area reattachment is an option. If not, dash will need replacement. See attachments.

If the windshield was out, would be a lot easier to do myself.. I tried to push it back down and wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.. I had thought I could put some contact cement in the grove but it has pulled away across the dash under it so would need to be reglued across the open part of the dash,. its definitely going to invlove removing the dash to fix.. I do think they could use the existing pad and reglue it but the place I took it didn't want to touch it..

I really don''t know.. bought it locally a while back at a local MB dealership certified. I have to think its pretty base interior although it had the fridge in the back and dash looks pleated which is different than my previous S550's. Not sure what was standard on a 2017

I am not the orig owner.. bought it a few years back pre-covid certified from the local mb dealership.
We had about 2 weeks of 100+ weather and the car is parked outside during the day. Being black on black.. sure it got pretty hot in the interior. Have to assume the glue released or the dash was not properly done..

What's interesting is the hole (pictured) that doesn't exhibit any tearing. It's like the dash was worked on before and maybe a clip or screw that goes in the hole is missing.

OP it is shrinking. Dried out and angry at some dolt leaving it out in the sun.
Don’t bother crying to BBB. They have zero teeth to force anything.
It is leather. Treat it as leather that needs attention.... Leatherique.com
32oz of leather rejuvenator oil and 32oz of pristine clean. Give it some love.
Pull the windshield and push the hide back in place once it has softened up.

I'd check with another upholstery shop if I were you. In the future get one of those reflective windshield covers that you place on the inside of the windshield, that'll help keep the temperature down in the car and make sure your sunroof shade is shut, you can place the sunroof in the partial open position in the back and maybe leave the windows down a crack too although if it rains put em back up of course. I'm in Florida where it's hot and lot of people take these kind of precautions as the intense heat can do a number on a cars interior.

It's a shame MB is not standing behind their cars better, I hear stuff like this a lot. They are gonna loose a lot of customers long term for sure. I'm hoping to drive my car over 200k miles long term and have it many years but am very nervous of expensive things going wrong along the way. I want to try to hold off as long as I can with getting a electric car and I really do like my 2018 S560 and cant imagine a better driving car.

I have not seen anything like this before. Sorry to see that. My suggestion would be pretty low tech but should work though. Just drop a small dab of glue and put some weight on that area. However, I would still recommend an upholsterer
I hope you can get it fixed

It looks like the plastic part under the leather is being warped (upward) due to extreme heat?
Is the following a replacement part? Someone can check the part number?
If so, maybe you can order one and transfer the leather covering over to the new part, which looks like it's being held down by some clippings.
The part is for S350d (W222) which should have the same dash as your S550.

This does happen from time to time with the leather dashes. Its shrinkage caused by heat damage. I have seen it on numerous W222s.
One of the reasons why if its going to sit outside, I would not get the leather dash

I have tried to push it back down into that grove and thats not happening.. I definitely think the dash has to come out or the window come out to be able to get down along the windshield side of the dash.
I emailed the General Manager of the dealership last night so hopeful he might respond. I am struggling dishing out $6K for this..

Someone probably already said so, but can you try a different dealer?

As far as a replacement part goes, these guys have a decent selection of used W222 items ... https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_ssn...OEM-Auto-Parts. For example, here's a dash assembly (note: does not have HUD) for $720. In my experience these people only want to sell whole assemblies, so they likely wouldn't sell just the top part that you're looking for, but still, $720 is a decent starting point for getting your issue fixed ...
I would think most body shops and many indy shops that work on Mercedes cars could figure out how to put it in.
