5k oil change
I did a 5k oil change on my s560 today.
the oil still was slightly golden making me think it’s too early. I think 10k is too long. When I change the oil on my Suburban at 5k, the oil is black. most cars I’ve had the oil is black at 5k. Most of my driving is flying down a highway and some local trips. What are your opinions on the 5k oil change. |

Oil is very cheap at Walmart $26- 5 Quart Mobil 1 Syn. I personally do Oil changes every 5 K or twice a year, whichever comes first. Filters are on Amazon also. I also always add 1/2 Can Seafoam to oil right before change. 0 Varnish in the engine and I know the tiny ports are clear. Been doing it for years, no issues.
I’ll stick to my 5k oil changes. mobil1 is cheap at Walmart. |
I think it's a bit early unless you drive your car in extreme conditions but you don't . My take on the oil change is early better than late when it comes to it . Suburban should have a different grade than W222 that's why it must be black .

I use Mann and hengst filters and run some sea foam for 100 miles before I change the oil. I also change it hot so I get a good amount out.

I do mine every 10k per Mercedes. Their engineers know more than I do.
Oil being black does not mean the oil is bad BTW, you would need to do an oil analysis to know that. |

Might look into doing this Seafoam idea you guys have, I just got my W222 with 52,XXX miles 1 owner and the dealer on the CarFax sais oil and filter changed but upon checking it, that is a lie! lol
Walmart for (2) 5QT Mobil 1 0W30 and an OEM MB filter for $18 ill be doing an oil change within the next week or 2 but I am curious about this seafoam technique gonna look into doing this too |
I wouldn't run 0W30, if you're going to run Mobil 1 I would run the European 0W 40 formula.

I mistaked - I bought 0W40 Mobil 1 European Formula. still no good? - Could I run regular 5w30 or 40? I dont think I saw 5w40 European formula but then again I wasn't looking specifically for it lol

Mercedes spec’s 5W40. The 0W40 is likely fine, especially in the winter.

I also do 5k OCIs, and I notice my oil is still golden if looked at with light. But M278s have documented cases of bore scoring. Knowing that, I will gladly stick with 5k OCIs.

5000 mi oil change - your motor will last and love you forever. 5000 is my target, too.

If I changed the oil after 5,000 miles it would be years before I hit 5,000. My SL55 is 18 years old now and has less than 11,000 miles. Our Bentley is a 2008 and it has 10,000 miles on it. Our G55 that is currently on Bring A Trailer is a 2011 and has just over 7000 miles. Even our daily driver a SLK350 is a 2012 and it only has 17000 miles on it,
Being retired and not really having to go anywhere we don’t put many miles on our cars. We did put miles on the e450 wagon 7000 miles that we traded on the s class. Out of state weddings. I try to change all of mine once every year. |
Please do not use seafoam as part of a regular oil change, a full synthetic will not have any build up at the service interval.
Seafoam really degrades oil performance and you do not get all the oil out on an oil change. This results in contaminated (although slightly) new oil that will not protect as well from wear and no benefit. Do pay attention to oil grade requirement for your car as cars fitted with a GPF will require 229.51. Cars without GPF can use either 229.5 or 229.51. |

whereas getting on an interstate and putting 700 miles on the car per day is considered normal conditions. If you go over to "I do Cars" just about every week (or 2) he tears down a no-longer serviceable engine and large percent dies due to oil neglect. MB V8s (550 and 560) have a bad habit of scoring cylinder walls under some (unknown) conditions--which renders the engine dead. Based on this and other oil information I know and understand:: a) I consider MBs 10K OCI to be acceptable only when the car is only used for interstate driving, with no trips of less than 30 minutes. b) 5K OCIs are a bit too conservative--oil wears out at a quadratic rate as the anti-wear package is depleted and the oil becomes sludgie. An engine with a 10K OCI will have 4× the wear of an engine with a 5K OCI. c) So, I am using a ~7K OCI for myself and my Wife. |

It’s why race cars run slow laps before the flag drops. Baby that motor till it hits 190/200* and it will love you. Once at 200*, the TT are waiting on you! |

If Mercedes thought a product like Seafoam was of benefit, they would recommend it in their maintenance schedule IMO
