Renntech Handheld ECU Tune

It’s not one where you put it in the obd, let it load, then go.
anyone have any experience with this tune?
I have the 4.0tt

It is hand held, so you plug it in, load the tune, take it out, drive with the tune.
Says you can take it off as well.
it has a toggle switch and RENNtech seems to be the most well researched in this space.

I used the Renntech Hand Held Tuner.
I put the start in position 2, plugged the tuner into the obd port and waited until the light turned green.
I took it out, shut the car.
Waited a min and started it up and went out for a drive.
This car used to feel like a 747 to me, but now it feels like the Concorde.
The tune wakes this car up but not to the point that it kills daily driving.
The take offs are more ridiculous and the passing is just silly.
I want to mention that with this device you can flash back to the stock tune.
The tune makes the car put out like 580 something of HP and like 650 ftlb of torque.
Delivery of the power is smooth and not jumpy.
I have tuned other cars in the past and the tunes required some tweaking, but this tune seems safe and not overturned.
I would highly recommended this hand held tuner for those that want to extract more juice from this.
I ran xentry after my drive and no codes.
I was looking forward to tuning today. Followed updates on ups site, saw it was out for delivery, but he came early today.
I came home and saw I missed the ups man, so I drove around looking for him.
i was bummed. About 2 hours later he shows up, saw I was home and didn’t want me to wait, I was so happy, I hate waiting.
My only complaint is I asked for a Renntech badge for the trunk and I didn’t get it, but I am sure they will send me one.
Well worth it.

I don’t drive too rough, but it’s just faster now.
much less pressure on the pedal and it’s taking off nicely.
They did a good job with this tune as it is not aggressive, but I did a small throttle drop on the highway and that was a lot of thrill….it pushes you into the seat the way an airplane with very few passengers and bags does on take off.

it’s an age old equation that everyone calculates differently.
They will throw in a RENNTECH badge for the trunk and that alone will add 17hp…..lol

If someone puts in 87, it’s no accident and they will get strangled (I’m kidding!!)
If you stick with major gas brands you should be able to avoid this.
if it happens, you don’t drive hard so you don’t create knock…..this car has LOTS of sensors…
Anything can happen…..

Guess I’ll just have to wait. The car isn’t under powered as it is.

It will pull spark timing if octane is lower than needed, so no worries. It will pull too much timing, but better that than not enough. You should check it because mine, even stock, would pull timing anyway. I think mine really needs 95 octane. It may also pull boost and throttle. As a result I retarded timing just enough to work on my 91 pump gas and it netted me a good chunk of power.
You can use a simple app like Torque Pro to see, then ask the tuner to retard xx amount. I'd assume they could make a new file to load so you can keep the other?
Optionally you could add E85, which is what I do now. Mine needed 30-35% Ethanol to run oem timing. Adding E85 to a car not meant to use it is risky because it may not be able to deliver it. So you need to watch/chart it with the app to be sure. Mine can deliver a mix of 50% Eth, which is a '16 E550, M278 4.6L.
RENNtech tune is made by them
Kleemann tunes are made by them
big brands make their own tunes
most other cheap tunes are just standard DAMOS files from a database bought or downloaded
Tuning is a job. The other way is to go to a tuner with reputation. On dyno they will find the best settings and map to get your car, with your mileage, to produce the most power.
The main problem is that consumes rarely buy a cheap tune then a high-end tune and compare....
So yes, every user will find more HP, but will never know what they missed or not
Now you know what is behind the curtain
