New Steering wheel retrofit

Has anyone updated his steering wheel on the W222 facelift to the W223 one? The buttons and the touch pad area seems to follow the same trend. I know the pre-facelift owners updated their steering wheel to the facelift W222 but were not able to get the touch pad functionality. However, with the W222 facelift having the same touch pad functionally as the newer W223, I assume a retrofit is possible without losing any functionality.

Any thoughts or experiences? Also where did you get your steering wheel from?

Update:
I watched a couple YouTube reviews (after reading the first few comments below) and you are all right. The 2021+ steering wheel design has a lot of complaints.

In that sense, for my facelift W222, I don't think the AMG wheel worth the upgrade, or is it?. My current factory steering wheel is below (2nd photo below). The wood looks good and blends well with the car, but coming from BMW (and knowing my other vehicle is a BMW) the steering wheel feels a bit large in diameter for my liking, and am thinking the AMG steering wheel would "feel" smaller? And perhaps look also better. Thoughts? Should I forget it?

I would spend some time with a car with the new haptic controls before you do that. My guess is it will work, but I have had loaners with those haptic controls and they are terrible, the actual buttons on our steering wheels are so much better.

Not to **** of people with face-lft vesrions but I will take my buttons over that glide-pad thing. Every loaner I have had used that I found them annoying, I will take my buttons anyday. Same thing with the glued on look of screens, I love that our era have the built into the dashboard and not stuck on there ala Tesla.

Doing that "upgrade" seems like a lot of work for little reward

Same, coming back to the real buttons after having a loaner with the haptic buttons is like a revelation...

Whan I had a W223 loaner car I wasn't a fan of the steering wheel buttons. I probably used "Hey Mercedes" 95% of the time since all the steering wheel functions are also available through speech.

can it work? yes absolutely.
but that wheel is hot garbage. those buttons are the most unreliable thing in the car and if they fail you dont want to know how much a replacement is.

People changed their bespoke S class steering wheel for the generic for the whole portfolio FL version??
The new one will likely work, but I would recommend pulling both wiring diagrams to get more insight.

I had to drive our BMW a lot in the last few weeks after after I got the S560; because of weather. We had snow and I needed the X5 more than the S560. The continued transition from one to another kept the illusion that the the s-class steering wheel is gigantic. Perhaps once I switch to 100% S560 daily-drive I'll get used to it. I thought the AMG wheel is truly smaller, and beside the cosmetic update (despite the lack of wood), it might be a win-win. I'll just get used to it. The touch-pad are so good and functional (first thing I noticed is the ability to also control the right screen compared to my former W222).

Was the sensitivity the concern? If so there is a setting for that if I recalled correctly. Otherwise I agree, buttons all the way.

Hmmm, I wonder if the A-Class steering wheel will be smaller, it is very similar to your car's steering wheel but it might be smaller, I assumed that because A-Class is a smaller car but we need to find a way to compare it first. The A-Class steering wheel was inspired by the facelift W222 steering wheel so naturally the design is very similar.

Forgot to mention, also compare the amg models A-Class steering wheel's size as well if you like that one better. Otherwise, you could probably also look at aftermarket steering wheel solutions for the W222.

Last but not least you could consider W213 steering wheel, the base one, the amg one. As well as the pre-2019 W213 steering wheel, it has the two trackpads you wanted but it is closer to the pre-facelift W222 steering wheel.

I like it as well, only downside to me is that it should have come with the flat top end just like they did with the bottom end

I don't know about you but if that is done, I am starting to get some "yoke" vibes, just me though.

flattening the top on the wheel will break the structural integrety of the wheel. if safety is not a concern to you a flat top wheel can be made lol

Do you have something that fits the Beige Semi-aniline W222 interior?
My current interior/steering is in post #8 above --> link: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post8743054

I just picked up a 2018 560 Coupe and I have just started looking for an all-leather flat bottom wheel. The car has every option, so I need a wheel that does as well. So far, I have not had much luck finding one. Usually, it is pretty easy (this is my 70th MB and car #486 I've been doing this a long time) but not this time. If anyone can point me to someone (since my usual contacts cannot help) I'd appreciate it.

No, I would not change to newer steering wheel. I like the steering wheel that came with the car.
