I知 going there. W140 to W222

I remember watching this video on VHS with my parents. I was raised with Porsche痴 and SL痴. In the end, my mother won (big surprise) I grew up 560 SL壮 and SL 600痴. This video is the absolute epitome of what Mercedes-Benz is to me. Figured it was worth a share and maybe give some insight to why I have a W-222. Love my car and hope that Mercedes finds a spokes person that is as passionate as the one from the W140.

yeah, I honestly haven稚 wanted an S class since the W140 debuted, until the W222. I feel like that car broke all kinds of new ground as does the W222.
And I meant to say in my original post that my dad always drove Porsche and my mother always drove Mercedes. In the end, she won, and we ended up being pretty much a Mercedes family for most of my childhood. Anyway, glad you were able to enjoy the video, and thank you for the response!

Yes, the W140 holds memories for me as well. The owner of the company I worked for drove an old 1980s S380 for many, many years and then went out an bought a new W140 when he sold the company. It was the perfect reward for all the years he spent building the business.

My first S Class was a ‘96 S-600. Wonderful car for whatever. Somewhere there is video of my participating in rallycross with it. Big slides.

I've been driving for 35 plus years...I"ve driven and owned many cars...C class, E class, SL class, 3 series, 7 series, Porsche, Land Rover...I've never kept a car as long as my 2018 S450....There's nothing wrong with it...I love it...I'm waiting for the next S class that is as good or better so i can move on.....otherwise I'll keep it as long as it functions.....

When I see one of those I still turn my head but I must admit they're long time outdated cars but back in those days they were outstanding cars and still to many people

2014 S550
Having just sold my 93 500SEL with 195k miles, and moving up to a 14 S550, I’m shocked to discover how well the W140 still compares. You can’t beat the march of time and technology. But they built a stately feel into the W140 that may never be duplicated. It certainly rode as well in some situations, though 16 inch rims on the S550 would probably fix that. Don’t get me wrong. The S550 is phenomenal. I just can’t see any of this new breed of plastic fantastic cars being cherished and still on the road in 30 years.

Thankfully there are versions of the 222 that are anything but plastic fantastic. AMG and Maybach cars with leather and wood on every surface in the car are soooo nice.

Things I don稚 miss about my 140 car....
The flexible chassis. Modern cars don稚 serenade you with squeaks and groans over bumps like they used to. I quickly learned to never have my finger tips at the top of the door with a window open over bumps. The 240 Maybach had the same flexible chassis with a few updates.
Brakes that when applied firmly at 130 are all done slowing the car by 80mph.... and the car is still doing 80!
Body roll!
Lack of power compared with modern cars. The 120 engine was all that back in the day.... Shown taillights by a modern turbo-4. I sure did love the snarling noise that bent-12 made when opened up every morning getting onto I-90.

My mother had an R129 V12. I will ALWAYS remember that engine. Even the starter sounded exotic. Now that I知 back with Mercedes, I am determined to find a R129 V12 again (probably on BAT). I know my mother would be smiling from up above.
Yeah, by todays standards the 129 and 140 flex and squeak and rattle, but there痴 more to it than that. The W140 was just an amazing car that broke so much new ground at the time. Anyway, thanks for watching and responding. Always fun to have some nostalgia. 😃
