Glad to get my car back

Four days at the dealer waiting for parts. I didn’t even know that the heat wasn’t working, the dealer discovered it when I was there getting the headlights adjusted. They ran some diagnostics and found the heater valve didn’t work. Apparently there is a desiccant pack that broke in the valve somewhere. It jelled and clogged up the valve. They replaced the valve and the reservoir with one gallon of coolant for a bit over $1,100.
Carmax doesn’t want to reimburse me anymore, they want the MB dealer to call them and Carmax will pay by credit card over the phone. I guess they don’t trust me.

The additive pack in the reservoir??
That is a gigiant problem, that valve is the least of your concerns. All coolant lines would need to be flushed and the radiator replaced.

The dealer said they flushed all the parts involved. They road tested and came back to check for any trapped air and checked temperature. I gotta trust they know what they are doing, they had Carte Blanche to do whatever was required, and I know they weren’t pressed to get the car out of there.

How long is the warranty on dealer work at Mercedes-Benz dealers?

Thank you. I believe I can see when I’m dealing with genuinely honest and straight forward people, and a great amount of those I continue to interact with are that way.
I bought more new cars than the average private party usually does and I never felt I mattered until I started at this Mercedes dealer. If their goal is to gain my future business then it’s working.

You can spend well over $100,000 at a Cadillac store, a lot more for a High performance Corvette and some pickup trucks are near $100,000 and most times you get treated as if you were at a doctor’s office.

When the additive pack ruptures it sends debris all through the coolant system. To fix this properly you would remove the radiator to reverse flush (but if you already removed it then better to just replace it) and reverse flush the the main coolant circuits (engine and cabin heat).

Also I have no trust for dealers.

I had a nice experience with the dealer in bay area, but after the factory warranty was over that was it for me, back to my indy. I bought the 3 year pre-paid service and they really helped me milk that for more than I should have received (they changed all fluids twice, wiper blades and last B service spark plugs). But they told me my rear brakes "should really be replaced". I approved the work and when I read to the paperwork later I realized I had more than 40% of the pads left. I didn't complain...they also replaced the aux batter for 2x what my indy would have charged.

Did B Service last time for $750 instead of $1400, there was no rocket science involved.
