Seems like the reliability record for this car is fantastic relative to the class. Does anyone plan on putting 300k+ miles on their 222?

Those that have done really high mileage, what did it cost along the way?

I plan to, just following scheduled service (with the exception being 5k oil changes), oil samples sent to the lab to keep an eye on internal engine wear, staying on top of general wear/tear and getting the work done when its spotted. I ran a w220 s500 to over 350k that still ran like a top.

The wife’s E350 now has 155k miles on it, and other than the inevitable stone chip, door ding, and carpet stain, it looks and drives like new.

My plan is to keep the S until I no longer crowd this planet.

These engines & transmissions (in the facelift, that’s what I have) they seem to be holding up pretty well with on time maintenance.

Personally the W223 does not suit me, for many reasons, but unless one comes out that’s better than the W222 I’m keeping mine until ‘the wheels fall off’!

As long as your keeping up the maintenance on time and not skipping anything these cars are usually stay happy. I do prefer changing oil every 5k miles since I pile miles on the car quickly.

223 is quieter and more comfortable (I haven’t ridden in one yet), but other than that it really doesn’t suit me either. The screen and interior vibe, and cheapness of the buttons is a major turn off. We don’t buy the latest and greatest vehicle every 3 years, so this type of purchase would be to hold it for 10+ years. I don’t see that happening with the 223. I think a higher percentage of owners will more on to the next model when it’s available.

On the other hand, 10 year old W222s are all over Turo and they ride just about like new.. that really speaks volumes.

Yes, I will be driving this until the wheels come off. Why not? This is a fantastic car.

and.... when the wheels do fall off, just buy new wheels and install it on the same vehicle : )

Jokes aside, yes W222 is a great platform and reliable, how are the air suspension fairing for everyone?

There are some similar threads that also have lots of opinions on this platform here:

I certainly intend to. I just can’t really think of anything that could take its crown. The w223 is awful. Well, inside anyway. The w222 is just the perfect car. Comfy. Fast enough. Gorgeous inside. It’s biggest issue is if it were to die what on earth could replace it? Another w222….

I will never get up to 300k just don't drive enough, but I have 5 more years of extended warranty so not going anywhere for that time. I have sat in the 223 and the screens just turn me off. I had a friend who gets new S every 2-3 years leases cars via his business, you know that drill. He had a tough time adjusting and told me he is used to it but would like his last 222 back if he had known. But he said it is smooth as silk and has crazy power

I just hit 80K miles on my 2018 S560. I plan on just keeping it. My main driver now will be the new 2025 E450 All Terrain Wagon I just got a few weeks ago. Gonna try to keep the S560 under 100k miles as long as possible at this point. The extended warrantee just ran out the Dec 26th. Great Christmas gift, lol. The main things that worry me at this point are the motor mounts, I understand that is very expensive job to do although maybe less my car being just a RWD. The other worry is the MBC (magic body control) Suspension system in the car. It is fairly complex. I've tried to talk numerous dealers into changing the Hydraulic fluid in the system when the car is being serviced but I'm always told it's a lifelong fluid and does not require any maintenance. I've heard of other getting a hold of the proper hydraulic fluid and changing it. Apparently suppose to change the whole fluid reservoir along with the fluid change as the filter is built into it. I'm certainly hoping that when I had the 60K mile trans fluid change done it was actually done as it was a very expensive service and a very important service although no way to tell if it was actually done since no trans dipstick. For that matter even hard to tell if engine oil changes are actually done as no engine dipstick. You just really have to trust the dealers with these cars. Hopefully their won't be any issues for at least the next 20K miles. I'm due for a service B in about 3K miles which will probably be about another year.

Yup recommend changing it despite the lifetime fluid claim, if you have 4MATIC do the rear diff, front diff and transfer case. If you haven't already, transmission fluid needs to be changed every 5 years as well which you already did at 60K which is good, next 5 years change it again.

I would like to say that I do plan to drive it until the wheels fall off, but the truth is that I get bored of cars, and swap them out every couple of years. This one however I do think that I will keep a little longer, as two years will the 2.5 year mark will put me at the start of college payments for kids, so why add a car payment when I have a perfectly good car in the garage!

Agreed. Also I do want to say, the W223 is an amazing car, I mean seriously. The problem is, in my opinion, after spending a day with the car, it's just not like the W222, you know!! I guess one way of putting it is the W223 is like a Bentley, but a Bentley is not a Mercedes.... So it's still great, but just not the right vibe overall. But compared to competitors (scary BMW things, Audi don't count since they've used the same A8 for the last 20 years..), the W223 is quite tame for what's coming out now.

i have 90k on it.
i do 5k oils 50k change everything else maintenance schedule.
i plan on keeping it till whenever.
I had a W220 S430 that i got rid of at 187k and I probably should have kept it, It was perfect.
