Have a stuck Distronic louver on my 2019 S Class

Hi. New to the Forum. Recently purchased 3 months ago a 2019 S Class w 20K as a CPO. Car is in great shape but increasingly I have Distronic louver that doesn’t close. Before I take it to the MB dealership as I assume it’s covered by the CPO, is there something I can attempt as a reset somewhere in the car. Thanks

Welcome to the group.
Are you referring to the camera cover in the grill?
There may be a hang up keeping the flap from opening and closing effectively.
The grill is easily removed.

CPO warranty will 100% cover this do NOT touch it yourself; there is no reason to give the dealership a reason to not cover it. I had this happen a few times to mine but somewhere along the way didn't happen when I could show to dealeship while it was happening. The CPO warranty is actually pretty good and you should plan for an extended warranty if you are keeping the car. I bought 16' CPO in 19' and had 2 things under that warranty, but just had AC Compressor and motor mounts done so I am at break even now with 5 years and 50k left on the warranty. I will sell car when warranty ends the repairs on these cars are really really really expensive...but the car is by far the best I have even driven or owned.

Great advice…
I was remiss in not considering the CPO/warranty.

Thanks for the advice

Sorry if I’m not responding in the right place to the good feedback you folks have given me . This is my first interaction on the Forum. Thanks for the input.
I didn’t know if there was an easy reboot somewhere on a screen or a common remedy for such an occurrence.
It is the camera cover in the grille. I checked it for obstructions but didnt seen any. When I got the car a 3 months ago I noticed it happened a few times. Now it seemed to be more frequent. I was waiting to take it in when I’ve clocked 5 k on the car to get my oil changed. I’m at 3500 now. I think I’ll bring it in next week. Glad to hear it should be covered by the CPO. I don’t want them to give me n excuse not to touch it.

I definitely plan on getting an extended warranty.
I just sold my 2017 E300 that I bought in 2019 w 11K. I drove it 95k over 6 years and bought an extended warranty thru Fidelity. Cost me 5K and they did about 8 K of work under the warranty. Right before I sold it I had my Indy mechanic replace an engine mount and lower front end linkage which was covered by Fidelity which was the majority of the 8K of repairs. It still had 6k left on the transferable warranty when I sold it. I loved the car but just knew at 106k things would start happening.

I pray the 2019 S class will be good to me. It truly is a cream puff that was owned by an elderly couple s and serviced by the dealership. The interior porcelain Nappa looks perfect and I don’t think anyone ever sat in the back seat. When I popped the good I marveled at how clean it was as well as the undercarriage. The ruby black color lessens pretty unique and has no dents dings and a few minor scratches. I know it’s going to chew up tires and brakes and maintenance will be more expensive than the E300. Thankfully I have 18 inch wheels and won’t be cracking rims. I hope leaving headlamps, electrical gremlins and a crashing Airmatic don’t find her ….
One final question. I note some bubbling on the lower chrome moulding on my rear doors. I think I read this was a common problem. I’m assuming my CPO isn’t going to cover because they ll say I bought it that way. The only reason I bring it up is because somewhere I read there may have been a class action against MB for chrome bubbling ..
thanks for any and all advice !

Not real chrome. Buy replacement on ebay from China. No one will know:

It never hurts to ask them about something that is broken/missing. I had a few little items done years ago by Infiniti as they were trying to lock me up for future work and I had a broken part in my electrical charging port door, wasn't sure they would cover it as it was like that when I bought it (didn't open the door until I got home 400 miles away from the dealership) and they covered it. Just try to find a writer that is friendly and be nice!!

Thanks for the input !

I appreciate the comments. I made an appointment to bring in the car to the MB dealership 1/2/26 so we ll see what happens.
The camera louver is open almost all the time now and given that Boston has had its first significant snow, I can’t even bring it into a touch less car wash to keep the salt off with that louver open.
as far as the molding, yes I had been before on that eBay website to find the Chinese replacement part for the chrome coated plastic molding. But I will ask the Service Manager who I’ve known for years if there’s any way under the CPO they might consider replacing it. Then I don’t have to figure out what tools I need to pop the old one off and hopefully replace it without somehow damaging the clips, my finish etc….

The car is really in exceptional condition inside and out. It does have a few minor rock chips though on the hood. Has anyone had any experience with the Dr Color Chips kit Ive read about on line ? I may just have a professional fix them when I do a paint restoration to remove swirls and ceramic coating in the spring …. Thanks

Take a picture of it while it is in the open position, this way if the car decides to behave normally when you take it there, you can at least show them. Since your doing your first appointment, make sure they know that THEY ARE YOUR SHOP, this is what I did and the service writer was my buddy throughout CPO and mainteance periods and did more than he had to.

Great advice !

Thanks I did actually bring the car to this local MB dealership when I first got the car 3 months ago. I wanted to establish the fact that I bought the car 260 miles from home and this dealership i needed to establish my relationship with them for servicing. Also they have a great detailing shop and I wanted them to clean and treat my light colored Napa seats. I had a great relationship with the service manager there w my prior 2017 E 300. However years ago we parted ways when I found my current 3 rd party Indy MB shop that treated me superbly and for a lot less $$. This new to me car though is covered for the next 9 months as a CP0 at the dealership so I’m going to need to use them for any issues that come up. I’ve taken pictures of the louvers open so I’m hoping I’ll have no issues getting this taken care of. I’ll find out Friday when I bring it in and we ll see what they say about the bubbling chrome plated plastic molding but I won’t hold my breath ….

I would say that it looks like there was a manufacturing defect with one of the moldings, please correct or replace under cpo. Please look at the dings on the hood and provide estimate to correct. My dealer has done well with door dings, so I imagine that is common service. Good luck ! Two days post New Year's, should be quiet at the dealer and the staff sobered up!

Update

I brought my car to the local MB dealership who informed me that the front camera had a faulty actuator. It would be 100% covered under the CPO. They had to order parts and will take 3 days plus to arrive so I’m in a loaner ( 2026 E350 w 3K miles). I gotta say having just sold my 2017 E300 I drove 100K and loved, this new car is not impressive to me. Really downgraded interior compared to my 2017 and the gadgetry no where near as intuitive to me as the SClass or my old E300. But I’m a senior so that’s probably why ! Hate the touch screens that feels pretty cheap

But as for service for the dealership, I’m thankful they covered the camera issue under the CPO. I haven’t heard anything about the bubbling chrome outcome but I did talk directly to the service Manager who I have known for years and he said they would get back to me.

As an aside, even though it’s covered by the CPO until 9/19/26, I bought a third party exclusionary warranty thru Premier Auto Protect for 60 months 125 K within my first month of ownership. My 3 rd party Mercedes Indy had said they have good experience with this company. For example I made sure it would cover components of the Airmatic suspension( covers hydraulic pump and modulator valves but not the shock absorbers ) covers my Nav equipment, Distronic, etc….. anyone have experience with them ? Thanks
