Listed in another post, OEM wheels:
https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/me..._saloon_alloys

I have Mandrus wheels that are made for MB, but they are all sold out. There are a lot of third party options. Other option is buying used OEM wheels from upgraders thru the marketplace here, ebay, Craigslist, FB, etc.

2022 S580
I bought my 2022 S580 last year May and my driving was not much so I have only 7500 miles on it. I paid a price over the MSRP and paid extra for 21 inches wheels with Perrilli tires fortunately I bought tire insurance from dealer and guess what ? first week I hit a pot hole and my tire blew the dealer charges were around $900 but insurance covered it and I did not pay much attention but few months later I was driving to Chattanooga and on highway my tire blew again the biigest problem was I had to wait 2 weeks to get the tire as it was backordered and the dealership rented me a car u fortunately I did not pa attention to the insurance they provided as it was not paid for and I ended up paying over $500 for insurance but wait the story does not end here I got the third blow out a couple of months later fortunately near my home and i could wait 2 weeks for the tires to come and now I have driven the car to 7500 miles and my 4th blowout happened on 285 north in Atlanta it happened on 22 nd of April and the car was towed to local dealership and i was informed that the tire is back ordered and it is expected to come by the end of May??????
I searchd through discussion boards and realized this is a problem with 21 inches wheels. I dont know i he insurance will still pay for it but the bigger problem is everytime I drive the car the tire blows out and i have to wait long time to get the tire and i am incapicitated . I wonder if it applies to the Lemon law and should I ask the dealership to change the wheels to 20 inches and a different tires any advice will be appreciated.

Welcome friend. Sorry to hear of your tire problems. By now, MB must know that they have a problem with the 21's on the W223 models and they should step up to the plate and offer owners & lessees a straight across, no charge exchange for either 19" or 20" wheel & tire packages. And, might now be a good time to again question the wisdom of not providing spares in the trunk? It's bad enough that folks are getting stranded with blowouts and unavailable replacement tires, but at least if there was a spare in the trunk, the car wouldn't be needing a tow every time there is an incident.

I would first speak with your dealer manager and ask them to swap out the wheels & tires. If they refuse, I would speak with a Lemon Law attorney. Best of luck to you and PLEASE let us know how you make out.

Wow. 4 tires beat my 3. Good luck with the dealer and lemon law. There are hundreds of failures with this combo. As I mentioned in other posts I contacted the NTSB hot line and made a complaintt months ago. Nothing! Others have done same and maybe you should too with 4 failures.
if you do change, I’d go to OEM 19” wheels and tires like many others have done. Pirelli and MBZ are responsible and if you read past posts on this thread, someone is thinking of a class action suit.
Good luck

If one is satisfied with 19s, why did you spec the 21s to begin with?

Are all of these 21” blowouts on runflats? I use to have really, really thin 22” ties on my X5 and hit some major potholes going really fast without any issues. But of course, those were normal summer tires.

I know runflats have really stiff sidewalls and I would I guess that the sidewall stiffness is inversely proportional to the sidewall thickness. Maybe the increased stiffness due to the reduced sidewall diameter makes the 21” rft very susceptible to pothole blowouts. I’m wondering if it is enough to simply replace the runflats with non-rft to reduce the risk and issues experienced with the 21” rims versus having to downsize everything. It might be worth a try.

The P-zeros are not runflats. And no, the tires are not the problem. People (including myself) have tried switching to other tires, like the reputable Michelin PS4S, and still had blowouts. So obviously the issue lies with the 21 wheels.

You see it on a lot of car forums: 20 and under you'll probably be ok, watch out at 21 and up. I would say it's worse here than I've run into before. On the Panny forums a popped 21 was a rare post, not a regular event like it is here.

Anecdotal as it gets so to ground that a little bit I just did a search over there for "flat tire", that gave me no results with a flat tire in it. I switched to "blown tire" and got a couple threads; both started by the same man, 21s, Pirelli. Found a couple random mentions with "21 wheel", but 2 of those were the man from "blown tire."

There are a lot less Panamera's sold, different demo driving them, etc. I'm not saying that constitutes proof but the 21s=run away thing wasn't a thing over there. Same with the cars before, sure you read about it, but not like here.

I do wonder, what exactly is it with those MB 21s, that make them so much more sceptible to popping? Like you said, 21s on sedans are nothing new...

You also hardly see any people complaining of popping tires on the Audi RS6/RS7 forums with the 22s. I have not had any issues in almost 2.5 years with the 2021 RS7 on the 22s. Maybe its because it has wider tires size 285/30R22? front and rear? However the car is heavy like the S580 so I presume its the suspension that makes it more absorbing over the bad roads while giving it a sporty ride? I also believe the front wheel and tire combo on the S580 is too thin for the heavy front end at 255/35R21 which makes it more prone.

My 2020 BMW X5 M50i is 500 lbs heavier than a 2020 Mercedes S580. The OEM sizes were 275/35 R22 front and 315/30 R22 rear. They were really thin. I slammed into a lot of potholes at freeway speeds without issue. I can’t recall blowouts being a common complaint for this model of SUV, where 22s were a common tire size.

I regret getting rid of this thing. The only reason I dumped it and moved to what was my rattle trap GLE 53 was because the X5 has pitiful rear seat legroom. This thing, however, was an undercover rocket hitting 60 in the high 3 second range. The build quality and fit and finish was so much better than the GLE, hands down.

Maybe the wheel width for the tire is not enough to support the weight of the vehicle and blows the tire. MB uses min wheel width for OEM tires, most probably minimize the wheel weight. Tirerack has an interesting video that shows that the wider width of the wheel supports the tires better in most instances with different tire widths at track test:

Thanks a lot for sound advice my car is still in a dealership in atlanta and i would get it when ready they are putting a yokohama tire as perrilli is not availble till end of May
you are right for one thing you go on atrip the tire blows and you get it towed next you wait a month to get the back order tire which itself is painful.
I will follow the suggestions you made.

I got summer 20s and winter 19s wheel set for my S580 with dedicated tires after selling off the 21s.

You wont be able to get them to replace them with Michelins. I would honestly pay out of pocket and get these all season Michelins. I have them now and love it. They lasted 40k miles on my older 2012 A8L with both sets over the past few years without flat etc.

Plus warranty company dont know crap. If you replace them with Michelins they are still liable to cover you for tire/wheel damage regardless of what brand is on your car for the duration of the warranty period.
