Any Updates on S63 Release?
#26
Makes sense. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing the release of the W223 S63AMG. I am still very tempted. I just don’t know how much better it could be than my amazing S580!!

Anyone hear anything new on the W223 S63 AMG? Seems ominously quiet!!

I am just afraid it may never see the light of day! It has been seen testing forever and should have been out or mentioned. With the change that MB is going to electric it just may not see the light of day. I just remember doing my 2019 S63 European Delivery in late 2018. My delivery person at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen anticipated that the S63 MAY be limited going forward. We also had discussions about the E63 and look what is happening there. It will be a 4 cylinder like the C63. Maybe MB is testing the S63 with a 4 cylinder motor or has decided not to bring it to market. For over thirty years I have been the most loyal fan of MB but man I am starting to lose the faith in MB.

I understand what you are saying about the S63 but something is up! And it is probably not good if you like V8 power.
As far as the E63 your are not correct. The fact is they are making 999 limited edition E63 models before the next change to a different motor. Whether it is some 6 cylinder/4 cylinder or peddle car who knows. Obviously we are all speculating except that Affalterbach has signed off on the FINAL EDITION of the 999 limited models of the last V8 E63.

The S63e is testing with a V8 Plug-In Hybrid. It is likely still not ready for the market or may be delayed due to issues with emissions and credits or the drivetrain itself. As for the E63, rumor is there will not be one at all, if there is an E63 it is hiding from spy shots as the next M5 has been seen testing numerous times with no E63 in sight despite the 5-Series’ release date being after the E. There will not be a 4-Cylinder S-Class.

Certainly there's a story there: They've clearly been making great efforts not to sell V8s. They've been removing it from models where it was once available, and the lack of a V8 packing S variant here feels like more than a coincidence. It's also the little things like the official 0-60 time being close to accurate with the S500 while the 580 is going up to a half second faster than it's official time. I don't think that's random either; official performance numbers are very carefully placed. They also don't do much to make the 580 a must-have versus the 500. Normally manufacturers try and gimp the lower model to trigger buyers to move up.
Ican go on here but the bottom line is that I agree: It should be out and it's not just teething pains.

The V8 is dead. CA has now set the market for a lot of MFG's.
There is no reason to produce a V8 anymore as buyers are happy with smaller displacement with electric power adders. It is going to be that or all electric.
I hate what they are doing but the writing is on the wall and younger buyers won't touch them.

Can you show where you got your data showing that young buyers who can afford to buy V8 powered cars won't touch them?

As for the 500 vs 580, I think MB sells far more S580's than they do S500's, I remember when the cars first appeared on dealer lots, the 580's were more than double the available units of the 500's, so the V8 is still very popular for this class of car. The reason the 580 has not as much standard equipment more than the 500 is because the S-Class' base price has increased largely, the car starts at $111,000 which is more than the old S560 I believe, and the S450 was a five-figure car. They have essentially upgraded the base model rather for those who do not need/want a V8.

They do sell far more; my point in that regard was it seems to be something they're trying to change with positioning. It's not gimped and they're positioning numbers to make it more attractive.
As far as the V8s in general: Yeah, exactly. I didn't want to do that much typing on my phone. They were clearly making an effort not to sell V8s, I think it was that, not teething problems, that explains the lack of an S variant being here now.

MB can still announce the release with deliveries in 2023. Who knows what the truth is with the S63?

You can cross me off the list of potential in-the-knowers, however, I may be able to take credit for perpetuating one or more unsubstantiated rumors!

Firefox has several nifty translation add-ons that make translating pages effortless. Probably chrome as well and possibly others, don't know about them. I thought the most interesting takeaway was the statement that it would be announced alongside the EQE at the Paris Auto Show.

Translated:
Around two years later, Mercedes AMG will present the AMG version of the S-Class.
After the C 63 SE Performance, the S-Class AMG will be the third version with the AMG E Performance drive.
The new S-Class AMG will also be the first S-Class sedan to feature the central star in the grille.
Like the AMG GT 63 SE Performance, the S-Class has the V8 BiTurbo in addition to the 204 hp electric motor.
Compared to the AMG GT 63 SE Performance, however, the V8 BiTurbo in the S-Class will perform slightly less than in the AMG GT 4-door X290.
Although the Mercedes AMG S 63 E Performance uses the same P3 plug-in hybrid AMG kit and also uses the 4.0 liter V8 BiTurbo, it will not have the maximum output of 843 hp. It could be that the V8 specification of the Mercedes AMG SL 63 with 585 hp is installed in the S 63 e. Thus, the performance would be 789 hp. But that doesn't mean you're underpowered. You still have to wait for the final performance values.
AMG could have chosen the Paris Auto Salon as the world premiere for the AMG S-Class. The Mercedes EQE SUV (X294) will also be presented there .
If you had known beforehand that the AMG P3 plug-in hybrid would have been so delayed, the S 63 AMG would probably have first appeared with the M177 including 48 volt ISG drive.
After the world premiere of the C 63 SE Performance, the S-Class will soon also be presented as an AMG version

The P3 ePerformance models are not without criticism due to their significant increase in weight. On the GT63s, the ePerformance adds a whopping 575lbs. The car weighs 5250lbs. Nothing sporty about this and reviews have not been that favorable over the standard 63 model.
