Discounts on leftover 2022’s?
What discounts are you seeing on the leftover '22s? I heard a rumor that there are $10K discounts available, but in today's market that's a bit hard to believe. I talked to one dealer and he said that there would be a discount, but he wanted me to stop in to discuss in person the amount.

I would also like to know what discounts, if any, people are actually getting on 2022 models? Or, any discount if ordering a 2023? Thx in advance for everyone's feedback!!

Find every car on the ground that meets your needs and email for best pricing; you can use cars.com and similar websites for searching purposes. Let them know you're a serious buyer and in contact with dealerships over a wide area. What you will see happen is many will say you must come in, many will demand a call, many will quote MSRP, some a small discount. But a few will wind up and take a big ol swing. Trust me on this, many people car shop exactly as I just descr, ibed and the Internet managers will recognize you coming and going. It's just a matter of whether they want to take that big ol swing.
You don't get it it's not there to be had. Among the offers that do include a discount you'll usual see a point no dealer will go below. That's likely as much of a discount as can be had now. I'd recommend getting a look at the window sticker: There was a car here with with many credits, things like no massage. The dealership up front offered to sell it with a sharp discount although they never said how sharp. Last I saw it was still sitting there.

Doesn't matter how you say it, salesman can smell a real buyer versus a tire kicker from a mile away. I didn't however say you needed to use those words, you need to get that point across. If you prefer other words feel free to use them. I've used exactly those words way more times than I can count and been taken quite, ahem, seriously.

Contact the manager you have purchased multiple cars with already. Ask him to discount the car for you based upon your existing relationship. This is not that complicated.

When I drove Lexus cars I tried this a couple times because there were people I had bought multiple cars from, I was always able to negotiate a much better deal from somewhere else. That’s why I had 7 Lexus vehicles and bought them from 5 different dealers.

You lucked out with this, but it’s not that simple. For one most people don’t have one person they have purchased multiple cars from, because they have driven different types of cars. Few people in the car business honor this type of relationship anymore either, and certainly not enough to take a huge hit off of MSRP on a car they would have sold for OVER MSRP.

I suppose I have been “lucking out” for the past 27 years. I have always been taken care of handsomely. Today dealerships are owned by large groups. The group I purchased my Mercedes from is the same group I purchased my BMWs from and my Volvos from. I am buying an XC 40 for my son next month and I will be taken care of. It IS simple if your relationship is strong and you are valued.
It depends on the type of cars you buy. For instance, there is no large dealer group around here that owns a Lexus dealer AND a Mercedes dealer. So, all of my contacts are with Lexus dealers that doesnt help me with a Mercedes. You are buying all european cars, and you are more likely to find dealer groups that own multiple European dealers than you are groups that own some Japanese dealers, American dealers and European dealers. My S560 is the first european car I have ever owned, save for a Volkswagen 20 years ago.
It is not as simple as you make it sound, and no most dealers won't take a huge loss for you just because you are a good customer. Look at all the people here who have LONG histories with Mercedes and dealers who can't get a great deal on an S Class right now. Streamliner is a great example, high volume buyer, in the best car market for buyers in the country (SoCal) and he couldn't get one for even MSRP. Do they service your car for cost too?
Bottom line is, dealers right now are selling every car they have at MSRP or over, why would they sell one to you for 15% below MSRP? That literally takes money out of their pocket. I know you're going to say they did that for you, but you are the only one here who that happened for. So, its clearly not that "simple". Everybody here are pretty successful intelligent people who are more than capable of negotiating a deal for a car. You lucked out with your W223s, and the other cars I'm sure that you got decent deals but deals that anybody else could have also negotiated easily.

Well, the last 25 years have been normal times in the car business. You lucked out with your W223.

You need to get better at relationship building.
You’re also a lot of other things that I can’t call you here lol. Get better at being someone others actually enjoy talking to.

I’m a very successful and highly compensated relationship builder, but hey I guess you’re right and you’re just way better at life than me and everybody else here.

And back to the topic at hand - any real world reports of discounts in terms of $ or %?

Send your emails. Claimed internet costs are not going to be indicative of what people are paying in the real world; too many people are not going to want to admit what they really paid. Even if they were honest, their pricing is yesterday's pricing.

At least here inventories are rising for sure, i drive by a couple of MB dealers regularly and they have way more cars on the lot than they did. If you go to MBUSA.com you see they will let you build V8 GLEs and GLSs now, which means some of their supply chain issues are easing and the estimated lease payments on builds are way down, which means there are subsidized lease deals again. The same build S580 I did 3 months ago today shows a payment $700 a month lower, so lease terms have definitely improved.
Make sure when you reach out to dealers you do so about a specific car they have on the lot. I would choose one they have taken pictures of, not that uses stock pictures.
I bet if you really work dealers you can get $10k off of a in stock unit...

The market is getting softer on both the new and used side, the numbers (wholesale/auction pricing, new car days on the ground, etc.) certainly support that. Not honestly sure if 10k is possible but it can't hurt to try. The only real problem I see is that the lower optioned 22s around here is that they have a lot of credits for missing equipment. On the other side of the coin there are no well optioned cars currently on the ground in the Seattle area. Not unusual to have trouble finding the right options when you're trying to pick off a leftover but the credit thing really throws a wrench into the mix.

I think it depends on how long you're going to keep the car! For me, I lease so its not a forever car, and if I can save 5 figures and hundreds of dollars a month by compromising on certain features and colors, I'll do that! Like, the last color I wanted was white, and my S560 is white!
If it were a car that I was going to buy and keep it would be a different story.

More recently, I am seeing approx $4K discounts on leftover '22s being pretty common now. Anybody else have any feedback about what they have been able to negotiate?
