MB should be ashamed, how dare they fail to compete with the Rolls Royce Cullinan which is more than double its already lofty price. C'mon Chassis, I know you hate the brand, but its comments like these that make no sense. Maybach hasn't been a RR competitor in decades, and last time they were with the 57 and 62 models (which were also based on MB platforms, and built in MB factories) they resulted in a sales failure with six-figure losses on each car sold.

Say again? You quoted a question and made an unrelated statement. Please indicate what in your view Maybach is, or is trying to be.
And MB is an order of magnitude less reliable than BMW. Unless you are comparing a current MB with a 15 year old BMW.

Maybach is a step up, more exclusive, more distinctive, and more luxurious, and of course a different image. But in no way are they even trying to target Rolls Royce, that is a feat in which is not possible, as observed by Maybach's failure of the 2000's. MB seems to be doing quite well with its current positioning of Maybach as a tier above its mainstream MB and AMG models. Maybach S-Class sales are stronger than ever (especially in China) and the Maybach GLS has also been a success. The old Maybach's all sold at a loss of $300k per car, definitely quite a turn around.

Since we are suddenly talking about economy vehicles, forgot if mentioned yet but did you also give the all-new CX90 a drive, you did right?

Agree on VAG (Porsche) brakes. My Cayenne brakes sound like a trumpet when creeping forward with brakes applied. Still love the car though. Son's Tiguan doesn't seem too bad.
Interesting offerings from BMW and Genesis these days.
MB reliability is utter rubbish. Porsche prices are pretty salty. This creates market opportunities for BMW and Genesis to exploit...

Squealing to me doesn't sound luxury, to each their own.

The issue with Porsche is cost, sport bias and an aesthetic I personally don't care for (too cold, teutonic). Issue with BMW is they're styling is out of control and right now almost all their cars are really ugly IMO, although they are extremely nice inside, drive great, have great tech and are reliable. Mercedes makes beautiful cars that drive great and are nice inside, but reliability is very uneven. Lexus is a shell of its former self making all low end transverse cars and they have abandoned the upper end almost entirely. Genesis is making a super compelling product but the dealer experience is nonexistent. Frustrating time to be into luxury cars IMO.
Anyways, fully agree with the bolded part although I guess we can say it is a first world problem though.

I did drive the CX-90 and liked it, very sporty and driver focused, wouldn't be my choice in this segment though.

As for sales numbers, they are in the global report, although not broken up by individual model, but regardless, Maybach is doing quite well, especially in comparison to their failed relaunch in the 2000’s.

All you have to do to see if a company is really trying to challenge an established competitor is look at pricing. If MB was selling Maybachs for $500,000 then @chassis would have a point. They aren't.
Genesis is not really trying to challenge Mercedes either, they are offering a cheaper alternative.

They really can't sell Maybach for $500,000 because all it is, is a more luxurious S-Class. Maybe if on a dedicated platform like the Rolls-Royce compared to 7er, then maybe.

I see, thanks for sharing your impressions. I see, fair enough maybe it isn't an economy vehicle then. Thing is Mazda doesn't have a luxury brand so I guess it makes sense to throw everything at their flagship SUV.

I guess at the same time MB pricing Maybach to RR is suicide because why would anyone buy a Maybach over a RR at that point (other than those who don't like attention, which I get it, a very valid Reason).
BMW also priced the XM as the Urus, CEO themselves said XM is for Urus buyers who want a BMW.

Maybach is trying to be a step above MB plain and simple. Its not trying to be RR, which has a completely different image than Maybach. RR is all about a classical era image inside and out. Maybach is much more modern and tech focused.

OP, any good news on the buyback etc. how is your car search as well, have a few options you want to pick from yet?

Anyway, most other brands have engineered good braking without the noise.
