DO NOT SWITCH TO ELECTRIC/How is the 223?

There have been a few folks here who have said things, that make it sound like MBUSA has been just SO magnanimous and forthright for repurchasing my last two MB’s. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. In both cases, MBUSA refused to do anything in the way of a buy back, until the cars hit that magic “30 Days Out of Service” mark. In California where I live, once that 30 day threshold is achieved, it is virtually a done deal that the manufacturer will take the car back. MBUSA knows this and if they don’t respond in kind, all the owner need do, is hire a lawyer and then they’ll have to buy the car back AND pay all the customer’s legal expenses.
Taking this a step further, by repurchasing a vehicle and calling it a “Customer Accommodation,” the vehicle is not branded a “Lemon,” and MBUSA can turn right around and sell repurchased vehicles on the open market. In the case of my 2020 S560, a few months after they took it back, I saw the exact, same car for sale at a non-authorized MB dealer in Georgia. I actually compared the VINs and it was MY old car! In the CARFAX report attached to the listing, it was noted as a “repurchase,” but that was it.
I’ve bought or leased 17 brand new, higher end MB’s. The first 15 were virtually trouble free and I truly enjoyed them. The 2020 had a rough shifting transmission that MBUSA refused to fix. I absolutely HATED to part with that car and in hindsight, I should have kept it. The 2022 S580 is a WHOLE new ballgame. There were and continue to be SO many issues with that car, it is just so frustrating and disappointing to me. I won’t be getting another new MB unless and until the W223 is significantly improved with the 2025 model.
As a long time, very loyal MB customer, it pains me to talk this way about the W223, but it is my opinion that the cars were rushed to market, without being thoroughly tested and refined. Blame it on the CCP Virus fiasco if you will, but when released and at least continuing to the 2022 models, the cars were not fully sorted out. For those who have had a good experience with theirs, I’m happy for them, but buyer beware.

The EQS has a ton of issues, too. It is just how MB works. The first two model years should be avoided the same pattern since the W220 series.

I wouldn't listen to your dealer at all, I know lots of people with EVs and I have done a lot of research into it, I have never heard anyone have any such concerns. I think you are letting what they told you ruin what could be a positive experience with the car. Dealers like to say all kinds of crap that isn't true. The reason they say to charge it to 80% is just thats the quickest way to charge when on the go, charging speeds reduce significantly when charging over 80%. When at home just let it charge until it stops.
You want to do all your charging at home, I would try and avoid ever charging it at an outside charger. The whole point is to just never have to worry about fueling again, it charges overnight while you sleep and you never have to think about it. Electricity isn't free, but its way cheaper than gas. I pay $400 a month just in fuel for my S560...charging it at home isn't going to add $400 a month to your electric bill. The charger also can be set to charge overnight when the electric rates go down.
Try just charging at night and not worrying about it being over 90% or under 20% and see if your experience with it improves.

In our case we own the car and intend to keep it for a long period of time.
The cost of fully charging an EQS at home here would be about $13.00 plus any charging inefficiency losses.

Just sat in an EQS SUV and an EQS sedan at the MB dealer yesterday. Nice, but just not on the same level as an S Class. Material differences, design differences, feels really like an E Class or GLS inside.

This is from the Rivian forum. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/t...-1-year.18353/
I haven’t checked the Lucid or Tesla forum, although I know you can get insurance directly from Tesla. Comments about skyrocketing insurance premiums for EVs can be found all over Reddit as well.

Interesting to hear your experience on several different cars this week, thanks for sharing, any other car you test drove?

Im going to drive a new Range Rover and a Genesis G90 soon, and I will spend more seat time in the W223 as I decide what to do.

RR is also lovely, sadly they did remove the physical controls for the HVAC for 2024 so its much more hidden and difficult on the infotainment compared to the S.

Hmm that will be interesting, from sedan to SUV it will be a different experience for sure and given how RR are touted the S-Class of SUVs, it might be yet an experience to look forward to.

The G90 is very nice. I can tell you off the bat you won't care for the V6, especially if you prefer the V8 in the S-Class, but at the price difference, may be a good compromise. Just make sure you have a good service center. We have not been impressed with our GV70 service.

Yeah I don't see myself getting a G90 unless it just blows me away. I would just keep my 560.
Yeah I always consider going to an SUV. SUV would be better for me in several ways, I just never quite can pull the trigger. I did also drive an X7 M50i. forgot to mention that. It feels nice and flagship-like when driving normally but any turning or bumps you feel the side to side of the taller profile, and when I got into the i7 and my S560 it just was very clear to me that I am a sedan guy. We'll see what the RR is like, I did like the previous one.

I myself has just switched from S-class to an EV car... and I'd say, I have never ever been that much excited and happy about switching any of my cars like this switch. I envision myself in the EV world forever now.

One would normally think that batteries can be easily replaceable but I guess not when it comes to EVs. A car manufacturer could differentiate itself very easily if it designed an EV with a relatively easily replaceable modular battery that can be upgraded and/or replaced.

Over the past 3 weeks, as far as EV cars and PHEV, I cross-shopped and test-drove each of those: EQS, Taycan, Tesla S, i7, iX, EQE, and S560e. Wish I could find a nearby Lucid dealer for a test drive but I couldn't. A day before i chose one, I also thought about i5 but again I did not want to wait too long and it was not possible to meet the i5 in person anytime soon.
Thank you (for the congrats above). I am in a new 2023 Blue exterior, Cream interior, brand new Tesla Model S . Will see how long I can keep this one given my recent years trend. I caught it just in time when the prices are reasonable. They finally offer regular steering wheel, so I passed on the Yoke steering. Given the first couple of days of ownership I am beyond surprised by the tech and powertrain. The car is on the complete far end of laziness vs dynamic, being super dynamic, type of drive. Easy to get into, easy to take off, automatically select gears based on "kind of AI" but can be canceled, and of course full self driving. I do not need all the HP but the Full Self Driving, and the power delivery, plus the tech compensates me enough departing from my S-class (at least for now). I had missed on a great M760 V12 a few weeks ago due to the same reason I mentioned elsewhere "someone being dishonest and wasting my time", and I will continue to be on the look for a fully loaded M760 V12 with the right colors, or will jump to S580e but I am more inclined to staying in the EV world from now on, hence Taycan or Lucid can be next for me in a couple or a few years (or whenever I feel I am done with my current drive). If anyone wants to chat cars, feel free to reach out. Where I live, the car (maybe the color too) turns way more heads than any car I owned before, thought that's not something I weigh in at all for any purchase.

Congrats! I am seriously tempted by the Model S, the latest price cut makes them a stupid good deal, I mean a Plaid is $100k. My concern is that once the novelty wears off I would miss the features and luxury I’m used to.
Super interested to hear how you like it over time!
