The new G90 M5 is also a plugin hybrid and it weighs an eye popping 5,400 lbs, 1,000 lbs heavier than last year’s model. It weighs the same as a GLS lol. People are in uproar, but man, that Isle of Man Green is an awesome color.

I believe its somewhere around 5500-5700lbs. The thing with the M5 is that has always at least been much lighter than other cars in its class, the F90 was comparatively very light, even among its predecessor despite adapting a heavier AWD drivetrain. The F90 to G90 weight is a huge jump with power figures that don't seem to be much better. A heavy S-Class however is nothing new, and expected given its different purpose.

Why are people comparing the S63 to an M5. No one compares an S class to a 5 series. If anything the closest S63’s competitor is the Panamera Turbo Hybrid & even that should only be compared to the GT63 E-Performance

Some of the reviews found on YouTube are not that enthusiastic about this thing. A lot of complaints about the weight, hybrid system and more general complaints associated with all S Classes, but is slightly more egregious in the S63 (like cheap plastic interior bits).

The S Class was never a light car but I looked up the weight of the S63 and it weights almost 6,000 lbs!!! It tips the scale at almost 1,000 lbs over an S580! Wow, this thing will eat tires and brakes like there’s no tomorrow and the suspension will probably not last more than the warranty period.

The M5 enthusiasts are having a meltdown over similar weight gains.

I waited several years before I came back to the MB brand, and I'm taking a wait and see attitude about the W223 S63. My wife's hybrid Toyota Venza is s a marvelous car, but completely different from an S63. Like you, I have strong concerns about the durability of the rolling hardware and ICE portion of the vehicle. They've crammed even more stuff into an already tight and hot space. And the integration of the electric propulsion with the ICE is amazing, but the complexity makes my head explode. There's also nothing magical you can do to offset an extra 1,000 lbs, even with advanced materials. You can make it "feel" better from the driver's seat, but making it last a long time is an entirely different challengestory. Personally, I'm not bothered in the least about the use of plastics in the interior of cars. This isn't the 1980's when plastic meant cheap. Considering how many times I've dropped my phones directly on concrete with no damage, I've become a believer that plastics have amazing durability. Maybe it's not as elegant as a wood panel or a metal button, but I think it will last longer. The S63 is crazy expensive, but all S-Classes are much cheaper, in relative terms, than they were 20-30 years ago.

Just begun the lemon process. After receiving my car at the beginning of June it was been in the shop for over 40 days and the check engine light just came on again.

First issue is related to the EAP emissions system and all four purge valves were replaced. The car is still giving a CEL so this is not fixed. The second was a failed brake booster so on the second day of ownership the car had no power brakes and would not allow me to drive the vehicle.

The worst part is after weeks of attempts to talk to a senior member at MBUSA to discuss a possible course of action besides lemon law, not a single person has contacted me once. This has completely soured my taste in the brand and will be a long time, if ever that I buy another Mercedes. There are simply plenty of better cars and better brands now.

There are supposedly 6 open cases of people that had the EAP CEL issue with the purge valves. If anyone on here has any more info please reply or inbox me.

Sorry to hear. It’s unfortunate Mercedes is treating you that way, especially for a car this expensive. I hope the lemon works out. The only consolation is that Mercedes gets to pay your legal fees when it’s all said and done.

What is the EAP system? I assume it's the EVAP system, but not sure if EAP would be something new.

It’s the evaporative emission control system. It’s for fuel evaporation. There are fuel expansion reservoirs and purge valves to manage any fuel evaporation. It’s a sealed system and leaks can cause the check engine light to come on I believe.

The annoying part is even if the lemon process goes well I’m out almost $10k for shipping registration and clear bra most likely.

I would ta;k to your lawyer because you should be able to get back every cent if you lemon it, including shipping and any bra.
