S580 tires
I live in mass and it is time to change my tires. I am being told by multiple shops that they will only install run flats on my s580 as that is what they came with. I hate the ride of run flats. I have had other cars that I have changed from run flats to no run flats. Anyone else have this issue?

What they are telling you is BS. Go to another tire shop. Here in Atlanta at least, the local Mercedes dealerships are similarly priced to the local tire shops, and both will gladly sell you what you want.

I live in Mass also--and the "big green tire and auto stores" absolutely will NOT sell you anything but runflats if that's what came on the car, and they don't even stock those tires--so it can be quite a wait. They won't even mount a spare tire on your car unless the rim is original equipment citing "insurance regulations"! (Isn't that why you make me sign the RO before you do anything?) I spoke with my MB dealer in Hanover (Westwood is same ownership) a couple of months ago and they say they would meet or beat any price quote (including online). If I order the tires before 10 AM, the will have them delivered, mounted & balanced by 4 PM. Any tire. I'm waiting for my runflats to wear out and then looking at the Continental DWS 06 Plus or the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4. It seems MB is definitely in the tire busiess around Mass (and Atlanta too). Let me know how you make out if you would!

Update: got a full set of Pilot Sport AS4 installed. what a difference in ride quality way better. they also seem to be quieter

And every time the tire got destroyed and the drywall got torn. I was told by multiple people that they are not run flat tires and there was a sealer in the trunk to seal it if there was a slight leak in the tire.
What size are your wheels and tires and are you sure you have run flat tires? I would get another opinion.

no need for a second opinion. when you plug the car into any of the tire sites and then match up the info from the side wall it confirms they are run flats. I have the 20" AMG rims 255/40R20 in the front and 285/35/R20 on the rears
I have read bad things about the factory 21" rims with blow out issues. I do like the look of the 21" but glad the car I found with almost all the options i wanted had the 20"

They told you the s580 has run flats? First of all, I had the s580 with sports package and 21 inch wheels and rims. I went through six tires before getting rid of the car. The 21-in rims and wheels cannot hold the weight of the car.

2021 S580
Just bought some new feet for my S580. I decided on Michelin Pilot Sport AS4's. Definitely should have done this a long time ago! They're quiet, grip the road very well, and handle road defects extremely well. The Hankook's they replaced were far too stiff and noisey. My Mercedes dealer was best deal out there....buy 3 get 1 free $1,393 installed. Highly recommend the Michelins.
