01 S55 rattle from rear center

01 S55 rattle from rear center
noob here but I did search and couldn't find anything.
I have a 01 S55 and have a knock/rattle from the rear center of the car.
only makes the sound at a stop with the car in drive but not moving. in park or neutral, no noise. driving -no noise. inside the car , it sounds like a tap/knock
from the left front of the car .from the outside of the car , it is definitely coming from the center rear of the car? maybe near the diff?
any one else have/had this problem?
