Finally put on my 20" custom DPE wheels on my S55

Took 4months to get these made but I think in the end the wait was worth it. 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 in the rear. The tire/wheel combo for both front and rear are actually 1lb less than the stock 18" AMG tire/wheel combo. So that was a big plug going up 2" in wheel size and not adding more unsprung weight.

The finish is a highly micropolished alloy, so it almost gives you the feeling its chrome but its not. Yes the car has been lowered using custom links to adjust them to the height I wanted. There is no rubbing on the front when turned full right or left. The rear also does not rub even if I slam the rear with the adjustable links, however its VERY close to the the outside fender, about 1/16" before it rubs (cant ask for a better offset there).

The valve stem was placed being the spoke, that way it doesnt interupt the flow/design of the wheel face. We were going to try to drill the holes for the TPMS to point towards the back of the wheels, but in the end that was a risky option. So we strapped the sensors in, that was done in the "dip" of the wheel barrel inside. The straps are custom metal straps with a worm driven clamp. And believe me, I didnt want to do it with all the horror stories but I can say for certain, aint no way in hell this strap or sensor coming loose, just no possible way. This shop has done 100s of high end cars like Bentleys, Maybachs, SLRs, Ferraris, and they have yet to see a strap fail. So I feel confident there.

Here are some pictures.

What style of DPE are those?? I really like the DPE newest centercaps

This was one of the first runs of this wheel, they are calling it their LS 5F wheel, the center caps are definetely nicer than then old DPE lettings logo.

Nice, they look like lorinser LM5. Are they forged?

Dixit 09-03-2007 12:42 PM

I opted for the 2piece, not a fan of 3piece designs anymore after being through a few sets and running into sealing problems. This is forged wheel. DPE I dont believe makes any cast based wheels, they are all forged. Yea they do look like the LM5s with a few changes near the hub area.

How is the ride on 20s" vs the 18s"?

You know I can barely tell the difference, basically normal driving you dont feel anything, but going over bumps and stuff you feel them a bit more than before, but nothing bad.

Bravo. Light weight and stylish.

What are the tire sizes you put on the wheels?

245/35/20 front
275/30/20 rear

These are about a perfect match to the originals.
