S65's going down in price?
I recently was looking at some S65 prices for 2007 models, and I noticed the prices seemed a bit low - they are into the high 60's and low 70's in a lot of cases. Have they been dropping that much recently? Did the new S63 engine announcements affect these lately?
heh, I can't help but think what a bargain for when these 2007 S65's dip into the 50k's...just get that warranty ready.

Yap, W220 prices are dropping like a rock, good news or bad news depends on which side of the fence you are in. Take a 2004 S55 with average miles, new $120K sells for $18-25K now.
Good opportunity for people to buy and join in but if you own one, better off keeping them for a long time.

The W221's are dropping too - it's amazing how these AMG's drop so much, whereas other performance cars with similar production numbers don't drop as heavily. I wonder what are the leading factors of this?

It is hard to compare the AMG cars to anything else, maybe the S models with Audi or M with BMW. With regards to W220 and W221 AMG cars, there is only the Audi S8 which sells at very low numbers thus retains resale value better.

Amg's are the best built luxo performance cars
all amg's are made in a fraction of the build numbers as any Bmw or Audi--they simply depreciate because everything luxury car does and not that many people know about them..only the smart guys do....
the w220 S65's have reached rock bottom...$35-40k...they will be there for a long while....the w221 has a little room to drop...but they too are going to be in the $60s for a year or more...

Where are the figures to back up "made in a fraction"? That's clearly inaccurate, Audi RS's are in far smaller numbers not to mention there's an AMG for every vehicle type unlike M previous to 2010. Or are you comparing AMG to actual makers now... if so why not include Nissan and Honda too...

The AMG factory is capable of 180-200 engines per day, or about 50,000 cars per year. These are low numbers compared to the overall MB output for all cars but if you compare that that to Ferrari with 5,000 cars per year or Lambo of about 3,000 car per year, there are many AMG cars around.

Less then 1500 65 models/engines r built yearly...... Take all the models and add them up.... They r much Less produced then an exotic car manufacturer total output.....
In 2006 only about 850 TOTAL 65's were built.
And the numbers are similar from 2005-2010
That is super rare. Rarer then the 1500-2000 gallardo production run

it also has to do with the like and dislike of the public/consumer. for example, i bought my 1988 928S4 in 1998 ten years after it was sold. the car sold new for almost $90K. when I bought the car it had every option and only 37,000 miles and was only 1 of 5000 to the US. ( my number is in the ballpark not exact) purchase price $12,500. let's look at the same year 911, sold for about $50K depending upon model and options will be higher eg, turbo cabriolet. i could not buy one in 1998 with the same mileage for under $35,000. why? the production numbers were higher than the 928 but peopel just did not like the car, so the price went down. just wait 20-25 years and the price will go back up like the 928. people realize then that the car is worth more and is a very excellent ride.

The other issue with AMG cars is that they have lesser cousins on the road, with huge numbers. In other words, AMG cars are not stand alone ones, the only exception being the new SLS which has no standard MB cousin.

Just think if your S65 motor goes it's $100k....going straight to the junkyard as a mechanical loss and you are still paying for it! That's a very rare case but is one factor that could have big psychological impact on demand along with still tightened credit.

It's also because there are no warranties out there for any used AMG or V 12. I could be wrong but spoke to Chrysler/Benz (ended July 30), easy care and warranty direct and car chex...no one will touch this cars because of the losses incurred. They would have to charge $8k plus to be profitable

Stay away from the one on Chicago motor cars. It's silver. Trashed. Tear in leather and s600 front brakes as the previous owner has black 24s on it and dogged through the stock brakes. It's worth maybe 70k at most.

I'm new here and am in the market for an 03 or 04 SL55 AMG as a toy ride (actually, she would be my 2cnd toy) . But I did happen to see Two 2005 SL65 AMG's with only 18K and 20K miles on them for only $68K. I know that sticker on those were around $190K But whats the diff between an SL65 and an S65? Arent they both V12 Twin Turbos AMG's?

I am just aggrevated at the run-around one encounters just trying to find one of these cars at a fair price. I am not talking about a deal, or anything of the sort. I am tired of seeing 2010 s63s on autotrader in december 2011 for 110k. That is just ridiculous, BS if you ask me. that car would take a 25-30k hit first year I would say.I have tried to match these cars to anywhere near what mb quotes in their residual value charts and there are very very very few I see listed anywhere close. I dont have access to auction prices but there are very few out there anywhere near a decent price.it is really difficult.according to mb residuals, a 2010 s600 loses roughly half after two years. None to be had on autotrader for less than 100k. Thats a 30k spread between what the residuals say and what they are listed for.someone please make some sense of all of this.

There are warranties available for the 2007 S 65. I just received a quote from Vehicle One (GMAC) for 4 Years 75,000 miles =$2950.00. Coverage looks about the same as all the others.
