Stuck/Sticking shift lever?

2003 S55 125,000(+/-) miles. Recently find that shift lever hangs up when shifting out of park. By pressing hard on brakes and wiggling lever, this usually is sufficient to get out of park and into gear. ANyone else seen this problem?

From what I've run across before it sounds like its gonna be 1 of 3 different problems. First and most expensive would be the shift assembly internal failing and the assembly needing to be replaced. The other would either be the stop lamp switch or the shift lock switch causing ur issue. Neither of the second two are too serious, just more aggravating.

Good luck and let us know what you end up finding to be the issue.

I had this problem in my 03 at 184k miles. Fixed the little plastic part which is unlocked by pressing the brake pedal. Cost me 200 bucks to repair it to an aluminum lock instead. If this is your problem, which is common in the w220 according to many owners, then look at post 6 here

you can also remove the plastic locking pin, but you have to be careful the shifter will move thru P, R, and D without pressing the brake.

Stuck shifter

Wish I had seen these posts before last Wednesday. Sent car to chambers in Somerville mass. After initial suggestion that it was an easy fix, was told that the shifter module needed to be replaced. Extremely expensive. Was this just the easy route for them?

Pretty much.

This is the piece that repairs the weak plastic one:

Is that piece plastic? The only thing that would concern me is having to replace it AGAIN.

happens all the time. I've had same problem with 1999, 2001 and 2005 E classes. Dealer knows it and fixes for almost nothing when I go in for another service (like A for example).
