Trying to install LED running lights
I'm trying to install LED running lights, and needed some help getting them to work. I just bought the cree LED lights from DDM tuning, but once installed I still get the error in the cluster and the lights only flick on for a second and then off, and then on for a sec.
Is there a resistor I need to install, and can I get a link from someone to the site to get it? One of my original bulbs is burnt out so I'm in a hurry to get this resolved.
Thanks guys

So no one anywhere is using LED lights? Am I to believe you all love you nasty yellow running lights? Damn, you guys are lame...It's a good thing I'm not just a pretty face. I'll figure it out as usual. If you are also wondering how to make this work PM me

A simple search would have turned up quite a bit on running the error free LED's which have a resistor so they dont throw error codes and flicker. Good luck.

If that's the case than a simple, "Yea, those error free LEDs with the resistors in them work great, I put them in my Benz, and they really work great," would have been the correct and desired response...instead I get, "A simple search would have turned up quite a bit on running the error free LED's which have a resistor so they dont throw error codes and flicker."
Typical
Don't worry though, I'll wing it since no one has confirmed they will work on a Mercedes

I kind of gave up on those error free LED. They don't flicker, but they still give me dash error. Some LED do, some don't. So I just stuck with white/blue halogen type bulbs. Same bulb different color to eliminate the yellow parking lamps, except for turn signal, still got my yolk.

Interesting...I had a feeling the error would still show up. These dang cars are so behind on the whole LED upgrade. All the cars are going this way for many reasons...I'll try what I bought and see what happens. If I like what I see despite the error, than I might just keep them.
Thanks for the reply

Not sure if this will be of any help but I did find this on the internet:
"vehicles like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc which have on board computer (OBC), you might need to add a pair Error Free Decoder Wiring Kit in the option to bypass the error or warning message."
This was in regard to the Cree LED driving light bulbs.
Click on the embedded link and it will send you to a page showing the product

I got LED for my license plate, which gave me NO error on my S55, but errors for both side on my S65. They're super bright so every time I start the car, I always have to press the "R" twice to cancel the messages. I got LEDs for my side markers and regular bulb for my headlamp parking lamps, no errors for the front.
I also bought rear led lamps but I know for sure they flicker. Still working on getting resistors but no time since the rainy season.

Yea, that's exactly what I have to do at the moment, is push that R button twice since my bulb burned out, so I'm kinda getting used to it. I have a feeling I'll have to continue to do it once I get the no errors installed.
I'd love to see some pics of what they look like on your car. Sounds like you are doing way more than I plannned. Only because I didn't feel like dealing with all of it, but LEDs would look great everywhere.
A friend and I were looking online and doing research to find out what resistor I needed. I still have to find out the voltage at the plugs, but the formulas can get tricky

Hey, I run the L shaped driving lights and never get a code. I just wired in to my parking lights.(since I did not have running lights to begin with) I know how frustrating it can be to not get a response out of people. I spend most of my time over on the W211 platform, they are active over there. Come hang out on the dark side for a while. You'll see how much more the W211 guys are modding theirs cars, and doing the work themselves. Take care man......car is looking good btw!!!!

Yea, I feel out of place at times since I don't have a W211, but you are right there is much more action over there.
I just got my lights in the mail so I'm going out to install them. I won't have time to post results until later tonight though.
Thanks Triman! The wheels in my sig are my stock one that are plasti dipped. I wanted to get an idea of what gray would look like before I bought anything else. I like gray, but this gray is a tad on the light side for me...now I know

Well I plugged in the new LED bulbs, but no go..
Guess LEDs are out of the question for these cars. Now I have to buy a third set, and I'm not even sure which ones to get next

No go as in the bulb not working at all or no go in that it works but it still gives error code? Got my car back from the shop today, I'll post up what I have.

These are the LEDs that I bought. They work but give me error codes when using in the parking lamp in the headlight housing. At one point, I had 5 error codes every time I started the car when I was running full LED on exterior lol.

I ended up using this type of bulb/color:

LED side markers with camera flash
Parking lamp with camera flash
Here is the bulb on by itself
Again for the side marker
Trunk LED and the only one causing error code on the dash at the moment
Puddle LED that came with the new "arrow style" mirror cover
It's pretty bright

Those all look nice...The first link that you have for the LED lights on ebay, are the exact ones that I have, but will not work when plugged in. I don't understand why they don't work. Did these work for you?
All the other places are dome light type right? light the blinker, and side marker?
Also, the ones from Amazon, are those the ones in the picture that you have for the running/parking lights? These are almost the same as the link I just posted. Are these mostly blue, or are they actually more white, because I'm skeptical since they are colored blue.

The blinker is a different type of bulb I think, someone confirm that. Side markers are like the dome light, but not all of them. The front dome lights are not the wedge type (like your side markers), they are the double sided connection festoon type (Festoon Dome Light LED, search that). Rear dome lights (on the vanity mirror and interior lighting) uses both type.
For the amazon one, look at picture 3 and 4 for color. Side marker is 6k LED, while the parking light from amazon is a "cool white". I originally had LED for the parking so all the colors matched but I got tired of pressing R 4 times. However there is a way to bypass that. Go to your lighting menu and put your DRL on "constant" and turn your light knob to "0". Your low beam will always be on and your other lights will be on at night as if on "auto" setting. This way your car will think those "faulty bulbs" are not on, therefore not sending you error codes. You will lose your locator light on function with this method, so your surrounding lights and fog lights do not turn on when you press unlock.

Well that's just it...LEDs aren't working and I need to find out why. Those Amazon ones are too blue for me. I don't think they will look that great, but for side markers they are too bad
I've gone through 2 sets of LEDs and neither work. When I pop my original bulb back in it comes on, so I know power is coming to the socket. I only have one original bulb though so I can't even put them back in...right now I don't have anything in. I can't find any bulbs that look like they will compliment the headlights. I'm starting to lose hope.

The amazon one has a blue tint but it lights up white, not pure white though as you can see in the picture. They do NOT match my low beams, but I dont really care since at night the low beam overpowers that little parking lamp anyways. I used the side markers LED for my parking once, it matches, looks great, but gives error. I'm at a lost too so I stuck with those non-led type bulb.

Ok, so let me get this straight...In picture 2 and 3, you have the ones from Amazon installed which are the small ones that are tinted blue? If so then They look great in the pictures so I'll go with those

I have been researching aftermarket LED fog lights after reading this thread. Every article I read mentioned that resistors needed to be installed to get the LED's to function properly. You should try the wiring kit I linked earlier in this thread.
even if they don't work it's only $20.
