Newbie,2006 S65 transmission disengage, noise, resets with ignition off

Hi, new to forum and S65, thanks for any help in advance, car has 50k, my transmission is disengaging and has wirring or hum that increases pitch with acceleration, but basically I can start car and drive a few blocks, the transmission then disengages and slips, I have tried manual or automatic mode, if I turn ignition off and let sit for a minute , restart the car it will travel another few blocks to a quarter mile then same thing. I shut off and restart and a few more blocks....had car towed to an indie and he put on star and reset....the car drove perfectly for about 15 miles then same whirring and disengaging happened...before the tow back was hoping for help, not a lot of s65 in my area , thanks again

once it disengages I have to shut it off, then restart, it will also stay in a lower gear periodically, then eventually disengage

You will need a full transmission rebuild.
You can also check the TCU for fluid contamination but I don't think so that is the problem.

I was thinking/hoping maybe an electrical issue due to star reset worked perfectly for 15 miles then back to same issue, where is the tcu located on S65

I had the same behavior on my 2007 S65 with 82K miles. I first did a transmission oil and filter change, which helped for a few months, but it started to misbehave again. Then i did a conductor plate replacement and that seems to have solved the it.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. I ended up rebuilding the transmission.
