2007 S65 won't go above 3,000 RPM

I have a 2007 S65 with about 118k miles. I noticed that when I stepped on the throttle it has plenty of power up until mid range, nothing after. I took it home and was revving it a little in the driveway and noticed that I could not get the engine to go over 3,000 RPM. I can put my foot to the floor and 3k is the max. No Check Engine Light. I have a BlueDriver OBD scan tool and pulled the codes. The only codes had to do with low voltage to a seat control system and a TPM code. I would have expected misfire codes based on my research of common issues with the V12, i.e. coil packs or VT. I don't know when the fuel filter was last changed so I will be doing that regardless. Anyone else run into something similar?

3.000 is the max number that normally limits you RPM when not driving to avoids you damage the engine
must be something wrong electronically that make the car think you are not in gears

Thank you. I didn't realize there was a limit like that. I went ahead and cleared all codes with BlueDriver (not that any were particularly relevant) and took it for a ride. Night and day difference. Scared the crap out of my wife when it broke loose upshifting :) Could have just been a coincidence so I will keep an eye on it.

Ive had the same issue before. Twice after hard acceleration. Seems like theres a safety built in. The first time i was worried about coil packs, VT and open waste-gates. Second time I pulled over on the highway and shut the car off and turned it back on. Drove normal instantly. Im not sure if I saw it in this forum or another but i recall someone asking if they could turn off or delete that feature. Novice Mercedes owner so take this diagnosis with a grain of salt.

pmurcury is correct - the ME 2.7.2 has coding that has its own rev-limiter setting in P and N.
