They squeak a bit when cold. Warm them up and you won't hear them. And, warming them up is FUN!

I love them, and you can't compare them to regular breaks. They have amazing stopping power.

Like the wise man said--lesson learned

Dan,
could you tell me what the all in cost of the CCB upgrade was and were there any hickups on install or was it straight forward.
I had a 2015 S63 and am considering getting a 2019 but finding one with CCB's is nearly impossible, so i am thinking of this option.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

About $26K for the hardware and install. The job was perfectly executed.

The one snag was an unexpected time delay—an approval process from MBUSA for the upgrade, and some time to update their VIN Database with this change (so it’s all covered under warranty and recorded in case I ever sell Dorian, and the new buyer comes in for CCB warranty work).

I didn’t know about this process and it delayed the work by a week or more. In hindsight it makes sense to record, but I was surprised it needed approval. Also that it took so long to approve, record in their database and somewhere on Dorian. The computer system also needed reprogramming to work with the CCB.

Bottomline, Mercedes of Lynwood, WA did an outstanding job, and Garrett who oversaw the work also did everything right, paid attention to all details, and was a pleasure to work with! As said before, I Love the CCB experience, and it was well worth the money.

Next time I will get it from the factory during my next build :-). Far more cost effective. If like me you intend to keep the coupe long term, I highly recommend it. Otherwise I would consider a new build with everything you want and CCBs.

hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks for the quick reply.
Im sure when I ask my local dealer about this I will get push back on doing it. But now I have an example to show them.

Dan,
I just found this thread, thanks to a link D.B. posted in the W222 section. I am seriously considering having CCB installed on a new SL. Might you post a redacted copy of the work order for the purchase/installation of the CCB package? I'm sure many here would be interested to see exactly how the dealer broke down the parts cost/installation charges.
Thanks,
Streamliner

STREAMLINER -

You would be getting the CCB's thru your dealership -

Here is a link that shows what you would be getting -

https://mercteil.com/en/products/amg...lass-w222-c217

Doing this thru the dealer gives you the MB warranty -

Dan will be posting shortly to answer your questions -

Thank-You

Ok interested but have to ask you quoted $26k which is a big number. The link above shows the total at a converted rate of $14,169?? Thats a big difference what would be the difference or is it dealer discount?

If it was $26k with usual dealer MKUP that would be shop cost of $16,900.

I would think the dealer would work on that mark up with you as that is obviously not there cost.

Most shops would also discount the mark up as they make their money also on the labor if you go Indy?

What was the original option cost? I would lean on that dealer hard if done at purchasing dealer.

Looks great and I do believe CCB is the way to go especially if not in a cold climate.

Thank you, D.B.!
I am trying to get a handle on especially the labor charge. As I understand it, this is a fairly simple, bolt off/bolt on job, with the bleeding of the brake lines, reprogram, etc. Also, what became of the ever-so-slightly used original brake system? Was that retained by Dan or??? Call me crazy, but I am hoping that the labor charge is not out of this world and if I ever go to sell the car, I would probably do way better reinstalling the stock brakes and selling the CCB package to someone. Call me crazy again, but I will not be tracking the car or using the CCB anywhere even remotely close to its potential and the car will be driven very little. I just WANT the CCB for how they look and the idea of almost zero brake dust is VERY appealing. With this in mind, if my dealer or any dealer close by will not work with me on a good price, I may forgo the warranty issue and just do the install with an independent shop.

STREAMLINER -

Are you talking about the 2019 SL450 you have

listed in your sidebar -

Unless I missed it I never saw that it was an SL450 -

I was just assuming that it was a SL63 - my bad -

(not that there is anything wrong with a SL450)

However I don't believe AMG CCB's are available for the

2019 SL450 -

When / if you did a build sheet were the AMG CCB's

an option that you could have checked -

I do not see that option available at this time when

doing a build on MB's website -

I also am unable to find a MB/AMG part number

for the CCB's for a 2019 SL450 -

Have you asked your dealership's parts counter

if they are available for your car -

If so do they have a part number(s) -

I am not even finding them as a European option -

I am going to look at the possibility of AMG CCB's for

other MB models cross fitting to your SL -

Don't hold your breath -

Thank-You
D.B.

Yes, my new SL will be the lowly 450, but only because that’s what I wanted. I’ve had many other SL’s and the current 450 just drives so much nicer, so much lighter on its feet than the V8 models. And, being an older guy myself, my days of roaring around are long gone, so the 450 has more than enough power for me. Interesting fact on the R231 SL’s: Virtually everything on the SL450 is absolutely identical to that on the SL550, and, the V6 car is roughly $20k LESS than the V8.

Anyway, there is a truly fabulous thread here by a fellow who retrofitted the AMG SL63/65 CCB’s onto an SL550. Reading that and then checking part numbers, it would appear that the mounting brackets, etc. are identical across the R231 line and that the CCB will fit. If you have not seen this thread, take a look, as it is quite interesting: https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...550-guide.html

Again nothing wrong with the SL450 -

You may be the most sensible guy on the forum -

Well there is your cross fit application -

It sounds like he obtained the CCB's from the dealer

and had a shop do the install -

I highly doubt that an MB dealer would do the install -

So no MB warranty -

I am guessing a big part of the install is getting

the CCB's to work with your car's computer -

Great information in that thread for questions you will

want to ask of whomever before you do the install -

The OEM brakes are yours to keep -

Updates please -

Thank-You

That is correct - see higher up in the thread. I'm fairly confident the retrofit process is similar.

A big thanks to Dan for posting the bill -

When ordering your S Class - the $9K for the CCB's is a bargain -

And for those of you who finance your purchase the cost of the CCB's

will add what to your monthly payment - maybe $100.00 if that -

And they are a plus when selling or trading in your S Class -

Food for thought so eat up -

Thank-You

Modesta - the ceramic coating cover - goes on top of the XPEL - http://www.modesta.co/index.html

Since you are local, I highly recommend Eastside Auto Salon + Mr. Sun & Tint. They do outstanding work from XPEL, Ceramic coating, tinting, and keeping your car looking new inside and out --> Joey, Ben, Rudy, and Michelle our now trusted friends and very good people at work and out of it. And I also recommend David Nussbaum from the Wheels Boutique (thewb) (david@wheelsboutique.com).

I have not heard this from anyone with CCB. I have had dealers—both MB and Porsche—say they squeak, as they try to dissuade folks from ordering them. Since very few if any cars on their lots have CCB, there are none for them to sell immediately, which is what they live for.

Well, I got the AMG forged wheels installed last week, here is a photo. I’ve installed ceramic brake pads, which has reduced the dust by about half, but these polished aluminum wheels just NEED to be kept pristine, to my way of thinking, so I am now shopping the AMG CCB upgrade. My pockets are not as deep as Dan’s, so I’m really digging for a deal. Wish me luck!
