2016 S63 AMG
2016 S63 W217 Coupe front suspension noise
Hi
My car makes a loud thumping noise, when cold, and making turns. Noise is from the front suspension. Anyone else has this problem? What did you do about it?

All of my AMGs have done that, and it is VERY annoying....it can sound at times as if your wheels are about to break or fall off. My current 2017 S63 does this, as did my 2016 and 2014 CLS63 cars. The most annoying part is when I would take it to a dealer, they would claim they could not hear the noise - and it's very hard to miss, but again it tends to happen only when it's first started, has been sitting a while (for hours or overnight), and when it is cold out.
I finally did find some obscure post about a year or so ago that sort of explained it, and the last time I saw a dealer a technician finally was at least able to acknowledge he was aware of that problem. From what I can gather, it's a common feature on certain AMG models that has to do with the type of tires that are being used (and that they are generally performance or summer tires), and the noise only happens when the tires themselves are cold, and when turning sharply at slow speeds (for me most notably when reversing)....and once they have heated up from driving for a while, the sound dissipates or goes away.
No idea if that is true, but that's what I've been told, and I'm told there's no harm being done from it (though it surely does not sound harmless). I will say it never happens in the summer or warmer months, only in late Fall, Winter, early spring, and is most notable just after starting up. You would think for the price of these cars, you wouldn't have nonsense like that happening, and certainly you should be able to find more information on what this really is.

I am pretty sure the technician is correct. I drove a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio with the summer tires and same sound when reversing and turning the steering wheel sharply. The salesman said that all summer performance tires do it.

I had the same issue. Here is what my dealer did. Note the Mercedes bulletin about the issue and let your dealer know.
